

Gwen Pryor of Houston, passed away at her home on Sunday, the 7th of July 2024. She was 77 years of age. Gwen was born on the 27th June 1947, in Houston, at Hermann Hospital to Fabrice Nettles Pryor and Andrew Jackson Pryor. Gwen is preceded in death by her parents; her cousins Fabrice Little Wallace of Houston and Shirley Gray Morris of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She is survived by her cousins Lisa Hoff (Stuart) of Galveston, Texas; Ellen Cannon (John) of Houston; Rosemary Vaseliades (William) of Houston; and their children: Andrew Ruff, Margaret Ruff, Catherine Ruff, Zack Ruff, Riley Kanaly, Virginia Lee Kanaly, Joanna Vaseliades, and Peter Vaseliades. She is also survived by her nephew, Craig Pryor, and nieces, Melissa Pryor, Priscilla Pryor, Kimberly Pryor and Allyson Pryor Hall.
Gwen graduated from Lee High School in Houston in 1965. She graduated with a Bachelor of Education from The University of Alabama in 1969 and a Master of Education from the University of Houston in 1972. After graduation, she spent two grand and adventurous years teaching elementary school in Australia. Upon returning to Houston, Gwen took a keen interest in genealogy and spent the next thirty years meticulously researching and documenting her family history and published numerous books. After she retired from genealogy, she learned to crochet and created beautiful blankets for family and friends, and for various Christian ministries.
Gwen was a lifelong and active member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston where she joyfully served on various ministries including Altar Guild and Prayer Shawl. Gwen also loved the Houston Astros and rarely missed televised games. She relished in the multiple University of Alabama national championships and never passed up an opportunity to goad her fellow Longhorn family members. Gwen’s beloved pet, Scorpio, remained in her heart as he served as her faithful companion for many years.
Gwen will be remembered for her dry wit and sense of humor, her contagious chuckle, and as a fan of the Houston Astros and Alabama Crimson Tide. But most importantly, Gwen will be remembered for her steadfast and unwavering faith in God, in her service to St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, and for the love she had for her family. She lived a robust and fulfilling Christian life and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A memorial service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 24th of July in the Christ Chapel of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road. where The Rev. Sharron L. Cox, Associate For Spiritual Formation and Pastoral Ministries and The Rev. Dr. Jordan Hylden, Associate for Christian Education will officiate. Immediately following all are invited to greet the family in the reception hall.
