We have always called my grandmother "Nanny", and she always had this photo in her room everywhere she lived. 

When we were kids Nanny used to take us to Steak N Shake for Chili and milkshakes. She took this photo one time after we ordered our shakes. The photo ended up in her room we had set up for her in Tennessee, and later onto Houston at Elk Point Lane and continued to follow her wherever she lived. She would always talk about it and describe Cameron's smile with missing teeth and me pointing at my large Oreo Milk shake. 

As kids we used to get really upset when she would fly back to Texas and we would walk her all the way to the gate and watch the plane leave. She would often leave a scavenger hunt of notes for us around the house with each containing a clue for the next note. Sometimes at the end the last note would include $20 for mom to take us to Steak n Shake.

An angel in a humans body... we were so blessed she was our family...  may we all strive to be even a tiny bit like her.  She was warmth, consoling, joy, love, funny, adventurous, our rock.  Although our depth of grief is immeasurable, our love for her is greater.  We know she is hugging, laughing and crying with our dearest beloved family in heaven.  And she took a part of each of our hearts along with her.

Another family holiday get together picture

Most people called her Helen or Snookie but for me she will forever be my Aunt NuNu.  

This past Easter with Helen .. wonderful memories of laughter and old stories of family .. We painted her nails …and talked and talked  💕


Everyone goes through life looking for people who are kind, caring, loving and beyond a shadow of a doubt genuine, and to know Helen, “Nanny”, was to embrace all these things and more. Always greeting you with a gentle hug and a huge smile, she was thoughtful and a true light in this world. She always had treats for the girls and nothing but love. Heaven gained an angel but you’ll be greatly missed here on Earth, until we meet again, Love.

I have so many memories of Helen growing up.  Cherrie was my best friend almost the minute we moved in across the street from them on Beau Lane .  Helen’s  house was always open to everyone..  She was one of the sweetest, most genuine people I’ve ever known.

I lived in Nashville and drove to Tx, and stayed with Nanny a few days.
That’s how sweet she was, yes come visit. 


My name is Shelly .As a young girl in elementary school in Kingwood, I moved across the street from Tammy and Helen , Jimmy and Cheri. They became my family as well. Helen would always allow me to come and stay. I loved being at their home, there was always the warmth of her love, food to eat, and feeling welcome. Tammy became my dearest best friend and through the years as well. 
I will never forget her giggles, and her caring for others and  helping spirit. I remember when she moved in with her mother and took care of her as well, that’s not easy. Helen was a fighter and her faith was quiet, but as believers in Christ ,she shared that trust and faith knowing this time will pass here on earth one day,  she would be made new again with joy and everlasting Peace. 
She had suffered much loss ,  I never saw her turn cold, bitter, or angry. Being around her was a joy, and her smile, was contagious.
She loved her kids s very much. She was gentle , not harsh in any way. One time in middle school, she asked me to come over while she ran an errand to be there while Jimmy  and Tammy were in their funny young mischief ,sure enough Jimmy jumped in the wet bar sink to hide and Tammy turned the faucet on him, Nanny came home  during this ,we all were just cracking up and laughing together. 
Justin and Devon ,then care taking for her as well, what a gift they are all to each other . Not many young grandkids and family could do that ,yet he is like his Mom Tammy and Grandmother, with a big heart and Cameron as well.
 Watching  her with Justin and Cameron, Her grand baby's was also a treasure to her heart . I know she will be so very missed ,never forgotten. Helen , you are so very loved by so many. I thank you for giving to me an extended home as a young girl, and lots of memories with the family as well. I love you .

The first time I met nanny I remember her making me feel just like one of the family. She treated me just like I had always been her granddaughter even before Justin and I were married. Which meant the world to me because I had lost all of my grandparents at a young age. I loved getting to spend time with her and hear different stories of her life.  Even though she had so much heart ache throughout her life she never let it change her loving disposition. She is someone I will always strive to be more like. It was an honor to take care of her since she spent her life taking care of everyone else. I am thankful for all the time I got to spend with her. I will always consider her my grandmother and love her with my whole heart.
