Helga Theresa Gomez was an exceptional wife, mom, and grandma. Helga is survived by her loving husband Guillermo Gomez; her daughter Julie Cortez; daughter Carmella Langford and her husband Curtis; son William Gomez and his wife Jacqueline; four grandchildren, Trent Davis, Hillary Cortez, Gabriella Gomez, and Alexander Gomez.
Helga was born in Munich, Germany, where she met her husband Guillermo in 1957 while he was stationed at Warner Kaserne, a U.S. Army installation. They married in March of 1960 before moving to Fort Bragg, a military base in North Carolina. Their family lived at several military bases across the U.S. and Germany throughout Guillermo's 20-year distinguished military career.
Helga was the matriarch of the family, always present in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking homemade German dishes, such as Goulash and Schweinebratën, preserving her culture and ties to her home country. Throughout the years, Helga took joy in trips to the beach, time at the casino, and hosting family gatherings. She liked celebrating holidays with home decorations, proudly displaying American flags for the Fourth of July and Christmas decorations from Germany. But family meant the most to her and defined her life.
Helga will be deeply missed by her husband of more than 63 years, children, grandchildren and extended family and friends.
