Upon graduation from Campion a private boy’s high school in Wisconsin, Henry attended Georgetown University, School of Foreign Service in 1948, and American University, Washington, DC in 1965, with a B.S. in Business Administration, International Business.
He proudly served in the US Air Force as a pilot in the Korean War from May 1951 – January 1958, leaving as a First Lieutenant. After his discharge from the Air Force, he went back to York, Pennsylvania, where he worked in the family feed business until it folded. He continued a long career in the feed business in Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Houston, and Colorado until his retirement in 1988. After retirement, he devoted his time and multi-language talents to teaching English as a Second Language (ESL).
He is survived by his three children, Henry Howard, Kathleen Shorb and Caroline Watkins; his sisters Rosa, Caroline, Ann, Susan and his loving companion of 27 years, Joyce Nible. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Rogers Owings and his twin brother, Thaddeus C. Owings, Jr.
A mass will be held at St. Justyn Martyr Catholic Church, 13350 Ashford Point Drive in Houston, Texas. His final resting place will be at St. Louis Parish Cemetery in Clarksville, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, tribute donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Henry’s honor.
