Hortencia Perez

Hortencia graduated from Jefferson Davis High School. She met Luis Perez in Houston and married on January 3, 2014. Later in life Hortencia worked at Harris County after relinquishing part ownership in the Earth Hauling business with Tandem Truck Service. She was a baptized Jehovah’s Witness and had a passion for showing hospitality and cooking for people when they came to visit.

Hortencia was one of eight siblings and was preceded in Death by Janie Sanchez, Max Melendez, Clay Melendez and Jimmy Melendez.

She was survived by her husband Luis Perez. Son Paul Santos and wife, Bertha Santos , Daughter Kate Santos; grandchildren Paul Jacob Santos, Evan Santos, Julian Santos and wife Nicole Santos, Ciara Santos and Ian and Annika Salazar. Also survived by siblings Tony L. Melendez, Mary Salazar, and Margaret Villaloboz.

A visitation for Hortencia will be held Friday, June 20, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039, followed by a Celebration of Life Service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, with a Jehovah's Witness discourse given by Paul Jacob Santos from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM.
