Hoshang Tehmurasp Sethna’s soul was reunited with Ahura Mazda on March 9, 2026. He now joins his beloved parents, Tehmurasp R. Sethna and Perin T. Sethna. Earlier this year, on January 6, 2026, he celebrated his 95th birthday surrounded by his Houston family.
Hoshang was born in Karachi on January 6, 1931. He is survived by his loving/devoted wife, Arnavaz, his brothers Rusi, Darayus, and Burjor, and his sisters Piroja, Aban, and Zarin.
Hoshang had a lifelong love for cars and driving. One of his earliest adventures was an ambitious road trip in 1956, when he drove a Morris Minor from London to Karachi. Driving remained one of his great pleasures, and in Karachi he was often the driver for family outings and long road trips. His enthusiasm for the road culminated in his winning the Car Rally from Karachi to Gilgit in 1978.
Years later, another memorable road trip across the United States brought him to Houston. What began as a journey became a turning point in his life—he decided that Houston would be his future home, where he built a life and a community that would remain dear to him for decades.
In his later years, Hoshang enjoyed traveling the world. He spent time cruising and touring wherever the spirit took him, visiting places such as Eastern Europe, South America, the Canary Islands, the Greek Islands, and the Caribbean, while also returning to Karachi nearly every year.
A quiet and noble man by nature, Hoshang cherished simple pleasures—social gatherings with friends, evenings of cards, and time spent with the community. He was part of a close group where some played Mahjong while Hoshang and others enjoyed their card games.
His deepest commitment, however, was to the Zoroastrian Association of Houston (ZAH). Hoshang faithfully served on the Maintenance Committee with the late Purvez Rustomji, regularly checking the air-conditioning units and other systems. Never hesitant to lend a hand, he would climb the outside ladder to the roof to inspect equipment—something he continued to do well into his later years and greatly missed as age slowed him down.
Perhaps one of his most enduring contributions to the community was opening their home for Sunday School classes for seventeen years. Quietly and generously, Arnavaz and he provided a place where generations of young Zoroastrians could gather to learn about their faith and heritage.
Hoshang will be remembered as a gentle, dependable, and generous soul—a man whose actions spoke more than words. He will be deeply missed by his family and by the many friends who formed his Houston family.
