Howard Earl Clemons (Clem) was born August 19th, 1948, and grew up in the "5th Ward", Houston, Texas. He attended school in the Houston Independent School District and graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School in 1967. Following high school, he enlisted in the US Navy and became a Gunner’s Mate serving on board the USS Albert David (DE-1050) where he completed two (2) tours in Vietnam becoming a part of the “Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club” and later onboard the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea (CV-43). He traveled to many parts of the world during his time in the Navy and developed a profound desire to travel that took him to many destinations around the world. He was loved by many and was a free spirit with an easy smile who had never met a stranger.
He settled in Las Vegas, Nevada and unofficially (officially) became the family tour guide. He wanted to know when you had a trip planned and he would meet you and show you around the city that never sleeps. He received a great deal of joy sharing the city that he grew to love with those he loved.
He worked and retired from the Clark County School District where he was regarded as one of the most popular bus drivers.
He loved his family, traveling, cooking (Peach Cobbler), music, nicknames, and his home state of "Texas". He talked to his siblings almost daily until he no longer had the ability to speak.
Those that have gone on before him include his parents, Father Collins and Mother Charlene Clemons. His Brother Clarence Clemons, and his Sister Clara Mae Stewart. He affectionately called her "Mae" and he was her "Boy Baby".
Howard is survived by his Brother James Clemons (Wife, Alveta), Sister-In-Law Clarice Clemons, Son Coy Sidney, Son Jason Johnson (Wife, Leigh Ann). Grandchildren, Chelcie Sidney, Madison Sidney, Luke Johnson, Eric Johnson, Ava Johnson, and Lauren Johnson. Great-Grandchild, Cade Hill. He also leaves his lifelong love, Emma Lois Robinson, life-long friends Charles Flannigan (U.S. Navy) and Homer Norris (Stauffer Chemicals) along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Howard will be laid to rest at the Houston National Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
