Ihen Sam Shen was a lover of the outdoors (he hiked in many of the national parks and some of the Appalachian Trail); a high school track athlete and, later in life, a marathon runner. He was a Tai Chi instructor and a Kendo practitioner. Occupationally, he retired as a Special Education teacher in 2005 and went straight into practicing Acupuncture & Chinese Herbology for over ten years. Born in Chongqing, China, and raised in Taiwan, Ihen moved to the United States and spent time in many of the nation’s states before settling down in Houston in 1978. He is survived by his daughters Celia and Heidi, son-in-law and granddaughter Michael and Hannah Wang, and many beloved siblings, nieces, and nephews. We recently found a note written to our dad in 2007. It expresses everything we all feel. From a patient: Dr. Shen, When I contemplate my blessings, your friendship is among one of the most brilliant treasures in my pouch. The world is full of such wondrous beauty – and your spirit is a big part of that.
