Irving Joseph Breaux, 87, of Richmond, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on July 7, 1937, in the small town of Gueydan, Louisiana, Irving was the treasured son of Alton and Palmea Breaux. From an early age, he carried with him the values of integrity, discipline, and quiet strength—traits that would guide him through every chapter of life.
Irving proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as an intelligence communicator. Fluent in French, he was assigned to specialized communications work, where his linguistic skills became a valuable asset to military operations. His service reflected his deep sense of duty, and he carried the honor of that time with quiet pride for the rest of his life.
After his military service, Irving built a long and respected career as an accountant with the U.S. Railroad, Motorola, and later Enron. Though his work required precision and structure, his spirit was gentle and light-hearted. Irving had an incredible mind for numbers, but it was his unwavering kindness and sharp sense of humor that truly left a lasting impression on everyone who crossed his path.
Irving’s greatest joys were found in life’s simplest moments. He loved tending to his yard and flower beds, watching birds for hours, getting lost in a sci-fi novel, or settling in for a classic movie on a quiet evening. His laugh was contagious, and his presence was a gift—always the first to lend a hand or share a story. To know Irving was to feel seen, heard, and genuinely loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Alton Breaux and Mervin Breaux, with whom he shared a deep bond. Irving is survived by his devoted wife, Babette Breaux, who was his partner and best friend for many wonderful years. He also leaves behind his beloved children: sons Tyson Breaux and Travis Breaux, and stepsons Eddie Rogers and John Henson-Rogers. Irving’s legacy lives on in his grandchildren—Andrew, Chris, Erin, Olivio, Jameson, and Delphine—who brought him immeasurable joy and pride.
A celebration of Irving’s life will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. for visitation and services at 2:00 p.m. at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038. Family and friends are invited to gather and share stories, laughter, and tears as we honor a life so beautifully lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Veterans Program Richmond-Rosenberg Helping Hand. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know and love him.
