

Jay was born on the 3rd of November 1919, in Houston, Texas, the youngest of seven children to Rachael and Joe Cohen. He graduated from San Jacinto High School and went on to become a self made man. He married his high school sweetheart, Marian, and was married for 26 years until her death in 1963. Jay served in the Marine Corps during WWII and later started the Natylie Jo Cohen award at Congregation Beth Israel.
Jay retired from the Gordon Jewelry Corporation after 43 years of employment where he held the position of Executive Senior Vice President.
He was an avid lifelong outdoorsman pursuing all forms of hunting and his deep love for saltwater fishing is legendary, following the fish from Galveston to South Padre Island.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Natylie, and wife Marian. He is survived by his daughter, Marlene and son-in-law, Alan Finger; daughter, Debbie and son-in-law, Jim Vitemb; son, Jayson and daughter-in-law, DaJuana Cohen; grandchildren, Steve Finger, Brad Finger, Melanie Goldstein, Rachael Vitemb, Avery Vitemb, Hannah Cohen and Jaycob Cohen; great-grandchildren, Erin Finger, Stephanie Finger, David Finger, Max Goldstein and Natalie Goldstein; nephew, Jacob M. Cohen; and nieces, Lois Brook, Sonia Bloom, Stephanie Noland and Leslie Ross.
Jay will be remembered for his love of a good party. He was a man’s man and a ladies’ man – truly one of a kind. He lived life to the fullest and was well known for his sparkling blue eyes.
A private memorial service is to be held for Jay’s family on Sunday, the 2nd of October.
