

James Boorman Gatton, age 84, passed away on February 10, 2012. He was born in Amarillo, Texas to William and Marjorie Gatton. During World War II he joined the U.S. Navy and served on a mine sweeper in the Pacific. He married Joan in 1952. In 1953 he graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Architecture and became a partner in the firm Caudill Rowlett Scott. Among the notable landmarks in his career he served as the Architectural Project Manager for the construction of Jones Hall in downtown Houston. He was named a Distinguished Alumnus of the School of Architecture, Texas A&M University, and was made a Fellow in the American Institute of Architects. He was a past President of the Houston Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, the Scanlan Foundation, and the Serra Club - an organization near and dear to his heart. He was a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre and a parishoner of St. John Vianney Catholic Church. He is survived by Joan, his wife of 59 years, children Paul, Kelly, Kirk, Jamie, and Ann Gatton, Susan Owens and her husband Michael, sister Josphine Haller, niece Barbara Young and husband Chris, nephew Scott Elam and wife Virginia, cousins Marjorie Tassi of New York, and Van Mills of Arizona.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 14 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, Texas.
