

James Floyd Spence, age 95, passed away quietly at home on September 11, 2023. He was born to Dewey and Louise Spence of Aldine, Texas; spent his early years at work on the family dairy farm. He graduated from Aldine High School in 1945, in time to serve briefly in the naval reserve at the close of World War II. Floyd received a Bachelor of Arts degree in physics at Sam Houston State Teachers College, now Sam Houston State University, in 1950. He was employed by Humble Oil & Refining Company, later ExxonMobil, and subsidiary companies, for thirty-six years. His work as a geophysicist took him to several locations: West Texas, New Mexico, Houston, and England. He was a past member of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists and of the European Association of Exploration Geophysicists.
He is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Billie Jean Cole Spence, three daughters: Donna Gail Speas and husband Ray, Brenda Sue Wayman and husband Wayne, and Cynthia Louise Jahn and husband Keith. He leaves six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, brother, Bruce Eugene Spence and numerous nieces and nephews.
