Jim was born on the 16th of November 1918, the second of three sons, to parents Jesse J. and Mary Waller Lee, in Houston, Texas, where he attended public school. His senior year of high school, however, was spent attending Shriner Military Institute. He completed Law School at the University of Texas and then joined the United States Air Force. He served during World War II with the 65th Squadron in the South Pacific as an Intelligence Officer.
While on leave in Sydney, Australia he met his wife, Dorothy, and they were married there on the 4th of September 1945.
After the war they returned to Houston and Jim became an attorney with Gulf Oil Company and then went into private practice, practicing oil and gas, and land law until retiring in September of 1985.
Jim enjoyed his life, especially his retirement. It was filled with activities with friends and family and a passion for the University of Texas football team and politics. He loved to read everything from westerns to philosophy. He never met a stranger and had a joke for every occasion.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jesse J. Lee, Jr., and is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Dorothy Irene Lee; his daughter, Peggy Fischer and her husband, Martin; his brother, Thomas H. Lee and his wife, Carla; and his sister-in-law, Eloise Lee. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Margaret Green and her husband John, and Eileen Bogar and her husband Eric; and his great grandson, Eric Bogar, Jr. Jim is also survived by many of his cousins who were lifelong friends and companions and very special nieces and nephews.
A memorial service and celebration of Jim's life is to be conducted at half-past eleven o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 5th of March, Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
Immediately following the service, all are invited to join the family for a reception in the adjacent Grand Foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Jim's name be directed to Shriners Hospital for Children, 6977 Main Street, Houston, TX, 77030; or to the charity of one's choice
