Jane Berlinger Dunivan was born in Hawaii on the island of Kauai on May 3, 1931, the daughter of Joseph Audrey Fernandes and Elizabeth Ventura Fernandes. She passed peacefully in her sleep on October 23, 2025, at the age of 94 after fighting to recover from a broken hip.
Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husbands John M. Berlinger and Arthur Edward Dunivan. She is survived by her children: John Berlinger, Lisa Berlinger and husband Hemant Tagare, Susan Berlinger, Mark Berlinger and wife Linda, Julie Amico. She is also survived by grandchildren, Ryan Amico, Claire Berlinger, Eric Stone and wife Kerri, and Elizabeth Stone.
Jane graduated from Stanford University with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in speech pathology and maintained lifelong friendships with her three college roommates. After her retirement, she enjoyed volunteer activities such as knitting for various charitable organizations and job placement for disadvantaged people at Saint Cyril of Alexandria Catholic Church. She was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles and Wheel of Fortune. But her greatest passion was her garden. She took great joy in caring for her tropical and native plants. Her yard was the envy of the neighborhood and regularly received yard of the month honors.
The funeral will be Hawaiian themed in honor of Jane's Hawaiian upbringing. Think in terms of wearing florals, Hawaiian shirts, etc. We will have leis for everyone.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Dunivan's name at West Houston Assistance Ministries 10501 Meadowglen Ln, Houston, TX 77042
