Just thinking about you and thought I'd drop you a quick "Hidee!".  Tristan is growing like a weed and is the joy of our lives.  Sure wish you were here in person to hold him, but I know you're watching over all of us from above.  I hope you and Aunt Norma are doing okay driving around up there without Uncle Doug but, then again, I'm sure you are both good drivers in Heaven :)  Love you lots and you remain my and Laura's thoughts routinely.

Well, Aunt Jannie, It's been two years now since you left us... And about a year since Momma left. In my last post I said that I wish you were driving around with Momma,,, well, now you guys are all of the time. I miss you two like crazy and it's not the same here without you. This book will be going away on the 30th of this month. I hope everyone that wanted to go to pay their respects to you! Love you, Momma, Mamaw, Uncle Larry so much!!!!!

Hi Aunt Jannie,  It's been a little over a year now since you went to heaven and we still miss you like crazy! Wish you were here to go riding with Momma like you all use to. I know she misses you every day! We love you, Mammaw and Uncle Larry and think about you guys all the time! I hope it's as nice where you are as everyone talks about it being. Love you so much!!!!

Jan Dee, I'm sitting here looking up relatives names on Google and entered Larry to find he had passed away so I entered your name to find that you had too.  I'm so sorry we didn't keep up with each other as the cousins we were for so many years growing up. I guess I shouldn't have waited so long.  Larry and I corresponded for a few years on email and all of a sudden he quit responding and now I know why.  Shirley Jean and I planned to try to get together.  We just didn't realize how old we were. I love you Jan Dee.

Not a day goes by that we don't think about you. We miss you and love you so so so much. We are so lucky to have these memories of the time we spent with you. You were a fantastic Mamaw, you spoiled us rotten and we loved every second of it. It won't be the same around here without you. We miss you more everyday and all your hugs and kisses. We miss going to your house for dinner and spending the night. Mom has been letting us eat alot of junk food this past week because we feel very sad about losing you. We are about to have one of your favorites... ORANGE SHERBET! Wish you were here to share it with us. We love you so much Mamaw!

 Bob and I were blessed to have known you and had the opportunity to experience your quick wit and marvelous sense of humor as well as your warm and welcoming wisdom. 
 
  We met you and Brett the same weekend and instantly fell in love with both of you.  Laughter and joy filled our time together and I knew that Laura had found a home.

   I thank you for welcoming Laura into your family and into your heart.  I knew you would always be there to provide the reassuring smile or hug that distance prevented me from doing.

   I thank you for raising Brett to be the amazing gentleman, husband, and father that he is.  I could not have hoped for a better partner for Laura.  

    I thank you for all the wisdom which you shared with both Brett and Laura.  I know they will draw from this in the years to come.

    We will miss the laughter, the lively domino games, the witty banter.  But most of all, we will miss you and the twinkle in your eyes.  Fortunately, we need only look at Brett and Mark to see it and to be reminded of you.
   
    We only regret that Tristan will not grow up knowing you firsthand,  but we promise that we will do our part to make sure that he knows what a wonderful and amazing woman his "Mammaw Jan" was.
    Jan,  the world is a little sadder without your presence,  but we know God is chuckling a little more since you arrived.  PS. Is he as good at dominos as you are?

Jan,  It was the first day of school, September 1957.  We met waiting for the school bus.  You and I were excited about going to Jr. High.  From that day on, you and I were the best of friends.  Over the years we have always stayed in touch with many dinners and lots of laughs.  I am sure you never forgot the day you decided you wanted to ride my horse "Spotty".  That old horse had her own idea.  She took off as fast as she could  for the barn. You were wedged between the roof all the while still strapped in the saddle.  Somehow you never had much use for that horse again.                       My life will be forever changed but I thank God I was allowed to have you as my life long friend. Where do I begin …?

I met you almost seven years ago and your wonderful sense of humor immediately put me at ease.  You welcomed me into your family no questions asked, which meant a great deal to me having left most of my own family in Ohio when I moved to Texas.  Having you and your family here helped to make Houston feel a bit more like home and made being so far away a great deal easier.    

It's still hard to believe you're no longer with us.  I keep hearing your voice in my head …the little things you would say such as, “oh my word!!!” or “forever more!!!” or “I am so proud of that!!!” I told Brett that if you were here today you would say, “I just hate that you all are so sad over me …it just breaks my heart!!!”  What I've realized is that you were not only my Mother-In-Law but you were also my friend – someone who I always enjoyed talking to (we could talk for hours if you let us).  Someone who always made me feel better if I was feeling down.  Someone who always made me laugh.  Someone I will miss horribly.  

It's because of you that Brett is a true gentleman and the enormous amount of respect he had and will always have for you is reflected in the way he treats me.  To be honest I don't think I've ever met a man who loved his Mother as much as Brett loved you.  You hung the moon in his eyes and it wasn't hard to see why he felt that way.  It's because of you that Tristan has one of the best fathers on the planet.  And even though you won't be physically present to see Tristan grow your love for him will live on through Brett.  

I feel blessed to have gotten to spend so much time with you over the last four months and I will be forever grateful that Tristan was able to meet his beloved Mammaw.  I will always remember the way you looked at him while holding him in your arms – you were “so proud of him!”  One day when he is old enough to understand I'll explain just how much he meant to you and how very much you loved him.  

I pray that you are enjoying the overwhelming beauty of heaven and continuing to do the things that you love most.  I can see you now sipping on a tall glass of ice water (extra ice), listening to The Gaithers and sharing stories with family members and dear friends who you haven't seen in years.  

I am confident that you'll be waiting for me when it's my time to make the journey to the other side.  Until then I will think of you often and I trust that you'll stop in and visit us from time to time, too.  I love you with all my heart.

Jan was one of the sweetest and most pleasant persons that I had the privilege of knowing.  Always smiling and so happy to see you.
The last time I talked to her on the phone, she sounded so cheerful.  I will treasure that memory.  She said she felt better than she had in a long time and she just had to tell Norma.  She and her sister Norma were like two peas in a pod.  They enjoyed doing so many things together. 
She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.  She touched so many hearts and lives. 

My deepest sympathy to her family and friends who loved her.

Well Jan,

I will start on a happy note. I cannot tell you how blessed I feel to have had the pleasure of loving you and being loved by you for these last 10 years. A more devoted mother and Grandmother I could not have ordered. I am so happy that I, Julia and Hunter had the time to enjoy your love. 

Now for the "brutal honesty" that we drove each other crazy with: It is so hard to imagine all of the milestones in Hunter and Julia's life that we won't get to share with you. Home runs, performances, competitions, birthdays, holidays, graduations, weddings will always feel a little empty without you in the front row cheering us on. 

I keep expecting to feel some sense of relief that you are no longer suffering and struggling, but I do not. I just feel so sad. There are only heavy broken hearts right down the middle of our house and I don't know what to do with myself. I would usually call you and talk about this. 

You told me once that when you are in the mood for a stimulating discussion you know who to call, but i don't have much fight in me now. I wish you were here for me to "discuss" everything that we usually do. Where will I go for this now? No one else has the stomach and backbone for it.I keep waiting for my phone to ring with your voice saying "Hidy!" On a selfish note, I still need your encouragement telling me on a regular basis what a good mother and wife I am. 

Thank you for Mark. He is a wonderful husband, father and provider and he has your sense of humor that keeps us all sane through our crazy busy lives, and it all started with you. The die was cast with you. You expected nothing less from him, and from Brett. Just so you know, I intend to deliver on all of the promises that you asked me to keep. You know that I will.

 I packed a brownie in Hunter's lunch today that you always called "out of this world", and you would love the tangerine colored hibiscus blooms that have finally showed themselves in the backyard. Just thought you would be happy to hear that. :)  

I will see you again, but I have much to do here first, so give me some time. Tell my Dad I said hi. You will know him easily; he is the tall one with the same sense of humor that you will appreciate. In fact, you two might throw a softball together. You will finally have the strength and the breath for it.  

I love you Jan. I know that you would tell me to hand this grief to God, because the weight is just too much to carry. I must be playing tug of war with him because it pulls me down so. I truly expected you to be with us for a long time. You have made a deep impression in all of our lives that will remain with us forever.

I love you and miss you deeply.

Jan was a wonderful person. Mark and Brett I just wanted you to know That I am very sorry for your loss. and hope that you can find peace and have solice in all of the great memories that you have of her.

I first met Jan many years ago when her sons (Mark & Brett) and I were about 2 or 3 feet shorter and living in the same neighborhood.  Over the next 3 decades since then, I've become an "adopted" part of her family as well (since Mark, Brett and their cousins are not only my good friends but also like my brothers and sisters) and I had come to respect and appreciate the kind of lady she really was, and things certainly won't be the same now that she's gone up there with the Lord.  She had my utmost respect because of her excellent morals and the fact that she did a great job raising her boys; she deserved so much more than she had in life although she was more than rich enough with a great and loving family (which is one of the most tight-knit kind you would ever see).  I also fully appreciated the kind and wise words she imparted to me during my hard & sad times.  She had a lot of compassion, was unpretentious and quite affable (with such a pleasant laugh), and she was indeed a great mentor and friend.  She was also a great Christian, mother/mother-in-law, aunt, sister and proud grandmother and grandaunt.  I actually feel blessed and privileged to have known such a fine lady, and she will be greatly missed.  In closing, I would like to share a quote Jan provided when my father passed away a few years ago: "Death creates a wound no one can heal, but it creates memories no one can steal".

I first want to tell you that I am going to miss you dearly. I'm going to miss all of the nice lunches you, Amy and I had together. Thank you so much taking the time to have us over and share some laughs with us while we ate. This meant a lot to Amy and I.

Even though this is the hardest thing that I've ever been through, I thank God that he took you peacefully into his arms to be with Mammaw, Papaw, Uncle Larry,  Gaylon , Granny, Aunt Trisha and anyone else up there that has been around us in spirt. I know that you will live around every one of us, helping us to keep our heads held high and smiles on our faces. That is what you would have wanted for each of us!

P.S. I have been appointed party scheduler and the keeper upper of the address list, so I will carry this on for you and the family I hope I can do as good of a job as you did.

I miss you Aunt Jan. I will keep all of the memories that we all made as a close nit family. You and my mom are the two that kept us all so close, and I want to thank you both for doing that. We are lucky to have had you in our lives.

Aunt Jan was one of the toughest women I know. She always brought a smile to our faces even if she wasn't feeling too good. She always found a way to make you laugh no matter what the situation. She will live in our memoires and will always be in my thoughts and Prayers. I will never forget our drives to the beach…everyone packed up in my Mom's Station Wagon. When those kids were yelling out “FAMILY” and we got embarrassed (because we were kids and didn't understand). All I have to say now is damn RIGHT…I am so proud to be part of this family! Aunt Jan will be missed but never forgotten. I love you all keep your heads up.

Hi Muma,

I am going to try and attempt this again, albeit through tear-filled eyes. I can't imagine a greater pain than what I am currently experiencing. There are so many memories I hardly know where to begin. I will keep some of "our" most precious moments between us but just know this: I love you more than can be described and I am going to miss you so very much. I have heard that the pain subsides (after time) but I cannot imagine that this gaping hole will ever be filled.

The one thing I know most definitely is that you lived life on your terms. Brett and I are the men we are today because of your teachings and guidance. You taught us to standup for what we believe in and that hard work eventually pays off. 

After Mamaw's passing you became the glue that held us all together. You'll be happy to know that Mandy has informed us that she will now be handling those duties! Besides, I'm sure you have your hand full telling some Heavenly Customer Service Rep how to do their job...hehe.

I know you were very proud of your grandkids and Brett and I will do our best to raise them in the same fashion you raised us...after all, we turned out pretty good (if I do say so myself). 

I have to go now but I will ring you from time to time so we can catch up and I can fill you in on the kid's progress. I love you and miss you dearly…

Aunt Jan was one of the most genuine and sweet people i've ever known. She is one of a small handful of people I've known that would do anything to help the people she loved, always putting their needs first. It's already been said, but she was a lot like Mammaw that way. She helped raise the Carson's,  Baucum's and her own kids, and I feel that the pieces of ourselves that we've gotten from her have made us all better, more compassionate people. Her legacy will live on through all of us. I love you, Aunt Jan.

Jan you will be loved and missed more than you will ever know.  Even though we were cousins, you were more like a sister to me.  We had so much fun growing up together.  I will miss you Gabby and all the good times we had through the years.  I will cherish all the memories.  You will be greatly missed.  I love you!

I have known Jan  for almost 40 years. Our children grew up together and became adults and still remain friends. She was a very special lady and was loved by all that knew her. She will truly be missed. She is with our lord now. Rest in peace my friend and we will see each other again.

WELL, JANNIE, HERE I AM TO TAKE PART IN YOUR LAST CELEBRATION.  I THOUGHT I WOULD GO FIRST BECAUSE I AM OLDER : AND TWAS NOT TO BE. I DROVE OVER TO GALVESTON YESTERDAY FOR THE FIRST TIME WITHOUT YOU.  IT WAS NOT SO SAD AS IT WAS QUIET.  I WILL ALWAYS BE SEEING NEW THINGS, HEARING NEW NEWS EVENTS, JOKES, WARNINGS TO TELL OUR KIDS ABOUT, SO MANY THINGS WE TALKED ABOUT.  WHEN I AM DOWN IN THE DUMPS, I COULD CALL YOU AND WE WOULD BE LAUGHING BEFORE WE FINISHED.  I WILL REALLY MISS THAT.  I KNOW THAT IF YOU WERE GIVEN THE CHANCE TO COME BACK, YOU WOULD NOT BECAUSE FROM ALL THAT WE HEAR IT IS HEAVENLY THERE. Aunt Jan was one of the most wonderful people I have every known.  She was always kind and sweet to everyone she met.  She was a lot like Mammaw in that way.  She was a person that genuinely cared about others and always seemed to put their interests above her own.  The world has lost one of the truly good people and she will forever be remembered fondly by those who were fortunate enough to have known her.

Out of extraordinary respect for you Mom, I am doing my utmost to limit my sadness and celebrate your life.  I'm thankful for all the memories you have provided to help me in this endeavor.  I will certainly miss you more than you know.  You've always been the woman in which I compared all other women and, as it turns out, that wasn't fair to any of them, except Laura; which is why I snatched her up so quickly!   Your incredible wit and sense of humor passed nicely on to Mark and I and we enjoy using them at every opportunity.  Sometimes, not unlike you, it inappropriate times that can cause others to give us "the look"!  

I feel blessed and honored to be your son and I truly cannot imagine having a better mother.  I'm happy to say that I knew how special you were all along and hope that I did enough to show you how much I loved and appreciated you.  I am so incredibly happy that you were able to meet Tristan!  To watch you with him just made Laura and I smile.  Thank you for waiting for him and we'll make sure he knows how much his Mammaw loved him, regardless of the short time he had with you.  I'm also thankful that you and Laura became as close as you were as I guess I'm a bit of a momma's boy and you liking my chosen wife was always important to me.  

I hope Heaven is all that you envisioned and I'm sure it's even more beautiful than you imagined.  They certainly got a good one with you.  Tell Mammaw and all of our other beloved family members I said Hi and I cherish the day I get to see you again.  

Rest peaceful, take lots of comfortable deep breaths (heck...go jogging!), and know that your life is truly worthy of celebration and remembrance.
