Jerry Eugene Gay

On Thursday, the 3rd of December 2020, Jerry Eugene Gay, loving husband, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away at the age of 76. Jerry was born on the 4th of May 1944, in Shreveport, LA to Orie Hamilton Gay, Sr. and Dorothy Evelyn (Jackson) Gay. He graduated from Byrd High School (Shreveport) in 1962 and was a cadet in the ROTC. He went on to attend Louisiana State University, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta and graduated with his Bachelor’s in Science in 1968. After college, Jerry was proud to serve as Army Captain during 2 tours in Vietnam and was honored with several war medals.

Jerry spent 38 years working for Egglehoff Inc. in Houston, TX, and retired after leading the company as president. In his retired years, Jerry married Mary Beth Swanson on the 16th of November 2017. Together, they had a passion for boating, fishing, and spending time on the water in Port O’Connor, TX. He loved watching LSU football and seeing them win the championship in 2019. Jerry kept in touch with many lifelong friends all the way into retirement, and still loved spending time with them as much as possible.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Orie Hamilton Gay, Sr. and his mother, Dorothy Evelyn Gay. He is survived by his wife Mary Beth, his brother Orie, sister Mary, and a host of loving relatives and friends.

A memorial service is to be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 19th of December, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
