

Jerry H. Loftin, retired Chief of Police of Bellaire, Texas, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on May 4, 2016 at the age of 82. He was born to parents Myrtle Adcock and William H. Loftin in Coushatta, Louisiana on July 1, 1933. He is survived by his loving wife Roena Loftin of 50 years. He is survived by brother, Bobby R. and wife Margaret Loftin of Cypress, Texas. His children, Anita of Montgomery, Alabama, Daniel and wife Joann of Florida, Mike and wife Amy of Clanton, Alabama, Randy of Montgomery, Alabama, Sheryl and husband Mark of Pearland, Texas. Grandchildren, Sarah, Patrick, Holly, Heather, Frank, Mark, Jr., Ashley, Dawn, Samantha, Dakota L., Alisha, B.J., Christopher, Dakota B. and 9 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by Sister Mary and husband Roy Turner. Also, preceded in death by son Ray.
He served in the United States Air Force for 8 years. Following his duty he moved to Montgomery, Alabama and was employed with the Montgomery Police Department for 9 years. There, he met his wife Roena and they were married in 1965. With a strong desire to be closer to his family they moved to Bellaire, Texas in 1965 where he joined the Bellaire Police Department. He served as Chief of Police from 1977 to 1996. He cherished his time spent with family and friends for many years with fishing and boating at their lake house on Lake Livingston. He retired from the City of Bellaire, along with his wife who was also employed with the City of Bellaire, on December 20, 1996 at which time they enjoyed traveling in their RV.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Pearland. He served as President of the Texas Police Chief’s Association, President of the Bellaire Lyons Club, Chairman of the Board of Governors- Harris County Organized Crime Unit, Board for Criminal Justice Center at University of Houston, Board for Police Training – Houston/ Galveston Area Council.
Visitation will be held at Forest Park Westheimer on Monday, May 9, 2016 from 8:30 am to 10:00 am. Funeral services will be held immediately following visitation with interment at Forest Park Cemetery.
