Jessie Crowl Weichert was born in Welsh, Louisiana on November 3, 1923 to A.W. Crowl and Verda Lee nee Edmiston. Her father was from Missouri and her mother was from Arkansas. She was the youngest of five children and grew up on a rice farm in Welsh during the Depression.
She married John Weichert on March 16, 1942. They had two children, Phil and Janet, and resided in Houston for a number of years. John was in the oil business and in the early sixties they moved to Kuwait. After six years in the desert, they were transferred to Great Britain where they lived in London and Great Yarmouth. Subsequently, they lived in The Netherlands, Argentina, Trinidad and Tobago and finally Egypt. After eighteen years abroad, John retired and they moved back to Houston, There they resumed their many friendships locally and stayed in touch with many friends around the world. They were active members of Bethany Christian Church.
John died in 1995. Jessie stayed active well into her nineties. She passed peacefully after a short illness. Hers was a long and interesting life.
She is survived by her son Phil Weichert and his wife Susan, his daughter Shari Morsch and grandchildren, Ethan and Micah, and her daughter Janet Miller and her husband David.
Our thanks to Joy Robertson for her loving care of Jessie for seven years. Also to Bethany Christian Church and her many friends there, especially Rev. Blair Parker, who helped us through this difficult time.
