Jimmy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle, and was best known as “GrandPooh”. He loved spending time with his family and closest friends, whether traveling with his devoted wife, Jessica, and his grandchildren, or socializing with his lunch bunch on Saturdays. Jimmy was an avid lover of art, opera, and history, and enjoyed frequent visits to the museum. He was active in his community as he served on many boards such as The National Gallery, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, and The Blanton Museum of Art. Jimmy was a respected man, loyal friend, and most interesting fellow.
In his early years, after graduating from The University of Texas at Austin, Jimmy joined his father in the family oil field venture as President of Younger Brothers. Later in life, he focused full attention to his tank cleaning endeavors, Nederland Tank Wash and St. Gabriel Tank Wash. Many think he may have had diesel in his blood stream as trucking was his love and life for over 75 years.
He is survived by his wife, Jessica Younger; son, Galen (Sharon) Younger; daughter, Allison (Mark) McMillan; Cathy (David) Odom; grandchildren, Laura (Jared) Oehler, Kathryn Younger and fiancé Michael Evanoski, Lee Younger and fiancé Ford Roberts, Mark Douglas McMillan; great-grandchildren, Joseph Oehler and Matthew Oehler; great-nephews, Michael Devere, Jed Devere, and Epp Odom. Jimmy will be greatly missed by Jackie (Maria) Younger, Robert (Jackie) Younger, Laura (Nick) Zito, Natalie (Cliff) Parker, Kendall Woodard, Wade (Heidi) Odom, and Paige (Frank) Devere. Heartfelt thanks to George (Debra) Rojas for his many years of devoted care and companionship to Jimmy and the family.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his mother, Roberta Younger; father, Edgar B. Younger; daughter, Laura Younger and son, Douglas Younger.
A funeral service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 19th of October, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
Immediately following all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.
