Dr. Jiping Zhou, aged 81 (82 per the Chinese calendar), of Austin, Texas, passed away on November 5, 2020. He was born in Ningbo, China on January 29, 1939 to Zhou Cai Xun (father) and Mao Sheng Lian (mother). He was married to Mrs. Meiqi Chen for 50 years. Dr. Jiping Zhou received an M.S. degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and a Ph.D. from the University of New South Wales in Australia. He had a career as a professor/research scientist in materials science for Both Shanghai University, formerly Shanghai University of Technology, and the University of Texas at Austin. He had 82 publications with 1,291 citations as well as a number of patents especially in the area of superconducting materials. A patent entitled “Jc in high magnetic field of bi-layer and multi-layer structures for high temperature superconductive materials” was granted to him as the first named inventor along with his colleague and co-inventor Dr. John B. Goodenough who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2019. He had a passion for soccer, table tennis, and football. Dr. Jiping Zhou also travelled extensively the Australia, Brazil, The Caribbean, China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. He is survived by his wife Meiqi Chen of Austin, brother Kingman Chow and his wife Susanna Tan of San Francisco, son Andrew Chow, daughter-in-law Terry Lin, grandson Oliver Chow, granddaughter Josephine Chow of Houston, and niece Yida Lee, her husband Andrew Lee, and her daughters Sabrina Lee and Samantha Lee of Singapore. He also has extensive surviving relatives in Australia, China and USA.
