Joan Mitchell

Born in Haskell, Oklahoma on October 25, 1934, she married James J. Mitchell in 1955. They were both employed by Gulf Oil in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the time. Soon after they moved to Venezuela for five years. They returned to establish their home in Houston from 1960 to the present, except for one year in Ponca City, Oklahoma.

Joan was a very active member of Tallowood Baptist Church while serving in the elementary Sunday School, Acteens, and on many committees. Joan and Jim were both Charter members of Tallowood.

Joan Mitchell was preceded in death by her parents, Lynch and Ruby Mae Bolding. Additional survivors: her husband, Jim, of Houston, Texas; daughter, Janet; son-in-law, Keith; and son, Mitchell, all of Katy, Texas.

Memorial Services will be held Friday, July 1, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Tallowood Baptist Church Chapel, 555 Tallowood Drive Houston, Texas 77024.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials in her name be made to the Alzheimers Association, Houston and Southeast Texas Chapter.
