Joann Rochon Edwards

JoAnn Rochon Edwards was born in Houston, Texas on November 11, 1938, she was the second of five children born to M.C. and Maybelle Rochon.

JoAnn was educated at St. Nicholas Elementary Catholic School in Houston, Texas and Holy Rosary Catholic School in Lafayette, Louisiana and was active in many athletic activities, including basketball, softball, and swimming. Following high school she attended Texas Southern University.

In the early 1960s she met and married Wilbur Jones. The young family grew to include five children; Michael, Patricia, Patrick, Phillip, and Mark. JoAnn was employed for more than twenty years at the University of Houston Conrad Hilton Hotel. She retired in 1996 to spend time enjoying her grandchildren. JoAnn was an active member of the St. Francis Xavier Church family volunteering at the food pantry and as a member of the Knights of St. Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary until her health failed preventing her from participating as much as she desired. JoAnn enjoyed cooking, fishing, playing games, and spending time with her family. She also traveled abroad extensively. She was well known as a cornerstone of generosity, empathy and friendliness.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents M.C. Rochon and Maybelle Rochon, husband, Wilbur Jones, brother, Wallace DeRouen Jr, and sister, Irlene Rochon Sam

She leaves to cherish her memory five children, Michael Rochon (Shewanna), Patricia Martinez (Clemente), Patrick Jones, Phillip Jones ( Agnes Faye), and Mark Jones (Cheryl), brother, Matthew Rochon Jr. (Louretta), sister, Consuella Battle, six grandchildren: Paula, Joseph, Jerell, Ashley, Mia, and Mase, seven great-grand-children and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

A visitation for Joann will be held Saturday, December 28, 2024 from 8:45 AM to 9:55 AM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 4600 Reed Rd, Houston, TX 77051. The funeral will immediately follow from 10 AM to 11:00 AM. The committal will be held Saturday, December 28, 2024 from 11:45 AM to 12:15 PM at Paradise Cemetery South, 16001 Cullen Blvd, Pearland, TX 77581.
