Dr. JoAnne (nee Dusz) Baer, age 76, passed away on November 6, 2019 in Houston, Texas with family by her side after a brief illness. JoAnne was born in Newark, Ohio on June 10, 1943 to parents Robert V. Dusz and Hallie E. (Price) Dusz.
Dr. Baer graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Wright State University, Master of Science in Psychology and Doctor of Philosophy degree in Psychology from Pepperdine University and a Post-Doctoral Master of Science in Clinical Psychopharmacology from Nova Southern University. Her 50-year professional career included various positions in the business world before continuing her education at the age of 54 to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a psychologist. Dr. Baer built a private practice specializing in forensic psychology testifying in court cases and fighting for the rights and protection of children. JoAnne and her husband of 59 years, Philip Baer, traveled extensively and particularly enjoyed international travel; spending time at their vacation home on the island of Madeira, Portugal. Her other interests included cooking and Country Western dance and music. JoAnne and Phil competed in numerous dance competitions, taught dance and judged competitions internationally.
JoAnne is survived by daughter, Catherine M. (Baer) Murphy (John); Grandchildren, Jennifer M. (Murphy) Galinski (Michael), Christina B. (Pryor) Fernando (Randy), and Jack B. Murphy; Great-Grandchildren, Gabrielle, Evan and Shane Fernando, and Quinn Galinski; brother, Robert V. Dusz, Jr (Kathleen) and sister, Marlene Sue Dusz; many Nieces and Nephews. JoAnne was predeceased by her parents, and stepfather, George P. Brocklesby; husband, Philip G. Baer; daughter Laura E. (Baer) Pryor; brothers Herbert A. Dusz and Thomas A. Dusz.
A celebration of Dr. Baer’s life will take place on November 24, 2019 in Crystal Lake, Illinois. Interment will be private at Valley View Memorial Gardens in Beavercreek, Ohio.
