

Joe was born on October 2nd, 1944 in Mercedes, Texas, to Ophelia Garcia and Pedro Vasquez.
Joe was a United States Army Veteran, who later became an Electrician Assistant before retiring. He was also a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church for over 40 years.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing in Sommerville, Texas, the state of Louisiana, and the ranch in Ganado, Texas, where he taught his sons and grandsons how to hunt, fish, and handle weapons safely.
He formerly worked at Richardson's Rubber Stamp Company where he met his wife Janie. They were married for 54 years.
He loved to read current events and history. His favorite pastimes were old watching old westerns, old tv shows like "How It's Made", cooking shows, and National Geographic. He always looked forward to Friday Night Poker with his two brother-in-laws, Raymond Orzabal and Gregory Urquiaga.
He was a hard worker who taught his family the values of hard work and the importance of a good education. He also was a strong family man who taught his children to take care of each other and especially their mama.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents; Pedro Vasquez, Ophelia Garcia and Albert Garcia, his brother Pedro Buitron, and his grandson Dominic Julian Cortez. He is survived his wife Janie Maldonado Vasquez, his daughters; Deborah Taylor, Belinda Ratcliffe, Sonya Irvine, Angela Cortez, his sons; Joe Angel Vasquez Jr. and Joe Alberto Vasquez, his sister Lucy Won, and his numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Janie would like to give special thanks to Dad's son Big Joe for his around the clock care in Dad's final two weeks, allowing him to pass peacefully at home with Mama by his side, which was Dad's most important desire in his final stages of life.
A visitation for Jose will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Rosary at 6:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home - Champions, 3410 Cypress Creek Parkway, Houston, TX 77068.
A funeral mass will occur Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 19222 TX-249, Houston, TX 77070.
A committal service will occur Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Earthman Resthaven, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060.
