

John was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 10, 1928 to Santo and Josephine Greco and passed away on March 3, 2014 at the age of 85 in Houston, Texas. John’s parents emigrated from Sicily to America and eventually settled in Pass Christian, Mississippi where they raised John and his three sisters, Nora, Mary, and Rosie.
He graduated from St. Stanislaus’ in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. Following high school, he attended Springhill College in Mobile, Alabama, transferring to Mississippi State College in Starkville, Mississippi to complete his Bachelor of Science degree. After serving four years in the United States Air Force in this country and in France, he returned to Mississippi State, where he received his master’s degree in geology. While at State, he was a member of Sigma Gamma Epsilon, geology honor fraternity, and Phi Kappa Tau, a social fraternity.
It was while working on his master’s that he met Patricia Sue Ogle, later marrying her on December 22, 1956. Destined to be surrounded by girls again, Susan Marguerite was born on March 15, 1958, Mary Frances on May 6, 1960, and Ellen Marie on November 12, 1964.
He enjoyed a twenty-seven and a half year career with Gulf Oil Corporation, retiring in the position of Manager of Exploration Personnel on August 31, 1985.
In his retirement, he spent many joyful hours woodworking in his garage and as a member of the Prime Timer’s Senior Group at St. Cecilia Church.
John was a kind, thoughtful, and caring person who touched many lives, most importantly, his family. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and uncle.
His service will be held St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Houston, Texas on Thursday, March 6, 2014, beginning at 9:30am with a viewing, followed by a funeral mass at 10:30am. Interment will take place at Houston National Cemetery at 1:45pm.
