I loved this man and cried like a baby when he retired and he asked me why I was crying. My sons will be so sad when I tell them. I just found out today. Never was a better doctor.or better man who will be greatly miss by one & all! Prayers to Dr. Mac's family! Wish I would have known early and could have gone to the services.R. I. P.

Dr. Mac is the only doctor that I can remember having while I was growing up. He was the family doctor for the "Atkinson" family and for my grandparents Clifton and Florence Philpot. I will never forget what a great doctor he was. He always had to give you a hug and ask how everyone in the family was doing. How he remembered all of their names I will never know. My children have heard wonderful stories of how great Dr. Mac was and how he liked his home grown tomatoes and also what a wonderful nurse Sandy was. I often tell them that I wish there were still doctors like him who really cared for their patients and not so much about the money. I remember when my grandfather was in the hospital dying and he wanted a beer, my grandmother told him that he could not have one because he was in the hospital. My grandfather told Dr. Mac about it and he said like hell if you want a beer you can have one and he went and got him a beer. God definitely broke the mold when he created Dr. Mac. There will never be another doctor like him. Rest in peace Dr. Mac, you will forever be in our hearts.

Dr. Mac delivered me in 1967 and even though he was also my dad's cousin, it didn't occur to me that he had a first name until I was a teenager...he was just Dr. Mac to me then, he stayed that even after I got old enough to call him 'Jack', and he always will be.

I remember the summer before 7th or 8th grade started I needed a physical to play football. We showed up at his office and he told my mom that she "...didn't have to drive all the way in, you could have just mailed in the form and I'd fill it out and mail it back.  I'm his doctor, I'd know if he had a plate in his head."  He was always ready with the punch-line, and he talked to you with no BS.

At a family Christmas at my house in 2010, he comes and I show him to 'my' chair in the living room and tell him that it's his for the day.  He can swivel and watch TV or turn and talk to folks from all sides.  His response, "I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not, what if I don't want to talk to them."  He will be missed.

We were very sorry to learn about Docs passing. Garrison remembers how Doc always followed him around on the golf course when he practiced and told Ralph, "I have a fan". Doc was a real inspiration. 

Ralph will miss seeing him in the locker room smoking a cigar and watching everyone come and go.

What a GREAT Physician,FRIEND and WORKING PARTNER. I was delivering babies at Parkway Hospital in April of 1966, when I recieved a phone call at home from Dr. Mac. Dr. Mac was wanting me to go to work at the North Woods Medical Clinic for him. We talked for three hours that night. I was asking all kinds of questions and telling Dr. Mac that I had never worked in private practice before. His response was you have been my patient for many years and you know what I do for sick children, so you can work in the clinic and I will teach you. 24 years later when he told me he was going to retire, I slapped him on the shoulder and said "never in that three hour conversation did you tell me that you would retire." Through the years Dr. Mac taught me so many things about medicine, loving the private practice and loving and helping all the patients. One funny story I can remember well I was asked by one of his friends to charge his visit to his Insurance Company. I did as I was asked. I later told Dr. Mac what I had done. He was not a happy camper. In fact after I arrived home that night I realized that after 13 years Dr. Mac just might have been fussing at me. The next day I ask him if he was fussing at me, his response was "if you have to ask me if I was fussing at you you might as well forget it." He laughed and walked away. Dr. McReynolds was a very special person. An Angel here on earth. I cherish the many years the I worked for him. To the McReynolds family I'm so sorry for your loss. The one thing that he was proud of was the family he left behind. Thank you for calling me Linda so that my family and I could say good-bye RIP Mac. I love you.

So sorry that I was out of town when Dr.Mac passed away.  I started seeing Dr Mac when he was at Northwood Medical Clinic, he was our family Dr until he retired.  Till today I have not found another Dr like him, he really cared about the people he took care of. Rest in peace Dr.Mac.

Dr. Mac was our team Dr. When I was head basketball coach at Aldine High School. What a fine man and physician.

I was so sorry to hear of Dr. Mac's passing.  One of the photos in your gallery is of Dr. Mac, with my Mom, Betty Jean Parmlee, and two other friends.  My Mom and Dr. Mac were friends from Reagan High School, and my whole family was lucky enough to have Dr. Mac as our family physician for as long as he practiced.  My Mom married our Dad, Tommy Mayes, in 1946, and they remained friends with Dr.Mac and other Reagan graduates all their lives.  My Mom passed away in 1974 and my Dad in 1983.  With Dr. Mac's passing, it feels like the end of an era.  Please accept the deepest sympathy from our family . . . The Mayes Family.

My sisters and I have so many memories of Dr. Mac and the Durham Clinic.  He and our Mom (Betty Parmlee Mayes) were great friends at Reagan High School.  In the attached photo gallery there is a picture of them sitting together in front of the school.  

When we would have an appointment Dr. Mac always made us wait to the last one of the day so that he and my Mom could visit.

Dr. Mac was with us during the best times and stood with us when we lost our Mom and then our Dad (Tommy Mayes), they were also great friends.

We were so lucky to have known him and have him in our lives.

Always a wry grin, always kind of quiet, always KIND and always humorous!  That was the Jack I remember. He took care of me when I suddenly arrived at his office ( Linda was the one who drove me there directly from a golf tournament)..I was hit by a golf ball near my left eye!~  His comment was --:" well, what happened to you!!"  He took quick action, called a plastic surgeon in to see me right away----and I don't even have a scar!  Thanks for your friendship all those years.

I think maybe the tale that most typified Jack was the time he discovered a man who was in the act of robbing his office----Jack paused a moment, then asked "Is there anything I can do to help you?"  Those of us who knew him were never surprised when he reacted with the pause---blank stare---then an "off the wall" response! Quite a guy!   Dr. Norman H. Moore

My condolences go out to all of the Mc Reynolds family. Dr. Mac was our family doctor from 1957 at Northwood Medical Clinic and Durham Clinic. He delivered my youngest son in 1967 one of his last babies he delivered to concentrate on his general practice until he retired. Miss you Dr. Mac and RIP!

I spent the last 5 years taking care of Jack,he was my best friend and I loved every minute of it. His stories are unforgetable, I spent my last pregnancy with twins with him and he almost always went to all my dr. appointments. My boys aren't going to remember him but I'll have pictures of him to show them and have so many stories to tell them..He's an unforgetable person and will miss SO SO MUCH....There was never a boring day with him.....and he always loved for me to read him the comics....love you always!!!!

Dr. Mac was our family doctor back in the day.  Mom and my aunts worked for him at the clinic on Yale.  One of last times he treated me was as an adult who thought he was dying from lung disease. He told me sternly to go home and find out what in the house was making me sick (which I did).  He was the best; and we always thought of him as family.  I think he thought of his patients as family as well.  

He dropped in out of the blue to Mom's house a couple of years ago, and we all had a lot of laughs during his visit.  It was great!

I believe that the hands of great physicians are the hands of God's Angels, and Dr. Mac was ours.  God bless him and the family.  Our memories of him will last forever.

Dr. Mac has been a great friend, counselor and golfing buddy for many years, enriching the lives of those of us who had the opportunity to be a part of his.  Rest in Peace, my friend.

My condolences to the McReynolds' family at this time of bereavement. May you be comforted by reflecting on all the cherished memories you shared together.

Dr. Mac's Family, I was so saddened to hear of the passing of this wonderful man, he was a wonderful Doctor and friend to my parents and me, he and my dad always swapped storys of life in the Navy and he always had a hug and kiss for me when I would come to see him. I went to his office ever since he was located on Yale street, He will be sorely missed but will have a reunion with my parents in Heaven, RIP Dr. Mac, we will miss you.

Uncle Jack was quite a character.  God broke the mold when they made him. He had the driest sense of humor of anyone I have ever known.  He was an amazing person and an even more amazing doctor.  He practiced in the Heights and many of his patients were so poor, yet he never turned them away.  The patients would bring vegetables, eggs, or tomatoes-his favorite.  He was a coinsurer of family, medicine, cigars, and steak.  His favorite meal was steak with a tomato, dressed with a glob of Helman's mayo. He was like a father to me.  Had he and Ninny not taken me places, bought me things, I probably would still be stuck in Montgomery (country).  He showed me another way of life.  For that I am grateful. Johnny and I grew up together and we lived down the street from each other. I can remember one Christmas morning my siblings and I were all sick and our parents walked us down the street to Dr. Mac's house where he treated us! It didn't make any difference it was Christmas! By the way, thank you for all of your wonderful entries; they are greatly appreciated by all of the family.  We were sitting around tonight reading these and telling stories about my dad. He was a character that will never be forgotten.  We would all love to hear any stories that you might have -- even if a little irreverent -- so that one day his grandchildren might get a glimpse of the unique and special person that he was.

My dad was a wonderful person to so many.  He would go out of his way to make even strangers feel special.  He taught me to be respectful to everyone I met, and he taught me that love was not something to be shared only with those you are closest to.  

I was very young at the end of my father's medical career, and can remember being amazed at the love his patients had for him.  When he retired, so many waited hours just to give him one last hug.  Even many years later, he still received tear filled hugs from patients that we ran into.  He still remembered all of them, and their stories, babies he had delivered and so many details of each of their lives. 

I would like to share one of my stories and how he was so wonderful to me.

When I was a freshman in college my dad sent me letters frequently. Just little notes about what he was having for dinner or how his golf game was that day.  Mostly they were silly and made me laugh, but they also were full of love and often made me cry.  His letters continued for more than seven years, until he could write them no longer.  Recently, I found a letter with a short phrase scribbled in his doctor's handwriting.  He wrote, “Of all the dreams one can dream, you are the happiest."  Well Daddy, you filled my life with so many fun and happy times, I hope that I am able to fill my children with just half as much love.  Thank you so much.  I love you, the most…

My sincere condolences to the family of Dr. Mac. He was a wonderful man and doctor. He delivered my oldest child in 1967. When I became pregnant with the 2nd child he had stopped delivering babies. And when I found out he was retiring I was happy for him but heartsick for myself. May he rest in peace.

I forgot to add, to show how personable he was with his patients, that when my daughter was his patient 27 years ago, he offered me a 1930's silver dollar that he carried with him in exchange for my daughter, which of course I declined...he was truly a great man!

I am saddened to hear of the loss of the best doctor I ever had the joy of knowing! Dr. Mac delivered me at Heights Hospital on August 4th, 1963 with my umbilical cord wrapped around my neck three times...he made me survive, to which I am truly grateful!  He will forever be in my fond memories!

I was one of his first patients when he first opened his practice on Yale Street next door to my parents hardware store (Siemco Hardware). I will never forget Dr. Mac and his wonderful bedside manner.

MORE....from John and Treva...I was only 23 when Jack and Linda stood up with John and I when we got married.  They even went with us on our honeymoon.  There were countless fun evenings of cards and lots of golf over the years.  His dry humor was startling to me at first but became one of my dearest thoughts of him.  He gave us medical advice along with golf advice, the first being the most valuable.  He started our lives together 40 years ago and we will miss him for the rest of our lives.  There has never been a better human being and friend.  We both loved him dearly.

I am sorry for your loss. Dr"Mac" was my doctor when we lived in Houston. He always took excellent care of us.

Dr. Mac was the BEST doctor EVER! He truly cared about me & our family. My condolences to Linda and the family. He will surely be missed.

He was a one of a kind man and a wonderful Uncle! I have many stories related to our time together that I have shared with my children, just none suitable for this forum come to mind. I can say they are all happy memories! My condolences to Linda and all of his family. There will not be another one like Dr. Jack!

My father lived a glorious life.  

He spent his time here on earth loving others, helping others, treating and caring for others, and saving lives.  

It is rare that someone lives their life not as they may wish or dream of, but exactly as they are destined.  "Doctor Mac" lived his life with us exactly as God intended.  Making those around him better, healthier, and happier people.  

He will be missed.
