Deacon Johnny Bernard was born September 21, 1938 in Lake Charles, Louisiana to the late Alex Bernard and Helena Bellard. He entered in eternal rest on February 12, 2025.
Deacon Johnny graduated from Washington High School in 1957 and furthered his education at Xavier University.
Deacon Johnny Bernard united in Holy Matrimony with Leola Williams. To this union was born one son, Kevin Bernard.
Decon Johnny Bernard and his family moved to Houston, Texas in 1971. He and his family united with Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Crawford W. Kimble.
Deacon Johnny was a licensed barber. After moving to Houston, Texas in 1971, he worked for Texas Office Supply and later retired from Bullparks Distribution.
He was preceded in death by his parents-Alex Bernard and Helena Bellard, his wife Leola Bernard, (4) siblings-Robert Johnson, Milton Castille, Wilton Castille and Rosetta Johnson and one Godson Thierry R. Williams.
He is survived by his two daughters, Margaret (Carlos) Jackson and Joann Ficklin and one son, Kevin (Norma) Bernard, Sr. of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren, Hilton (Magali) Landry, Sr., Patrick Landry, Sr., Brian Landry, Sr, Quincy Williams, Rolynn Williams, Sr., Gerald Williams, Rodriques Williams, Kevin Bernard, Jr., and Kylassia Bernard of Houston, Texas; eighteen great grandchildren; eighteen great great grandchildren; four sisters in law, Jettie Celestie of Vero Beach, Florida, Bettye Pettie of Houston, Texas, Victoria Pettie and Bennie Ruth Williams of Natchitoches, Louisiana and one brother in law, Simon Johnson, Jr. of Lake Charles, Louisiana, one Goddaughter, Kimberly Shields of Houston, Texas and one Godson, Marcus T. Ellis of Monroe, Louisiana and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A visitation for Johnny will be held Saturday, February 22, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 3015 N MacGregor Way, Houston, TX 77004. The funeral service will immediately follow from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. The committal will be held from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Paradise Cemetery South, 16001 Cullen Blvd, Pearland, TX 77581.
