Jonathan Michael Richter, 73, of Houston, TX, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of August the 21st 2021. Mike, as everyone knew him, battled in the end with COPD and spent his last weeks at home surrounded by his loved ones.
Mike was born on October 18th 1947 to Norman and Willie Mae Richter in Houston, TX. After graduating from Reagan High School in 1966 and working one or two odd jobs, Mike began a celebrated 42-year career with Southwestern Bell Company. After years of working the evening shift and sharing his time with work and family – Mike retired from Southwestern Bell Company (AT&T Corp) in the spring of 2008.
Mike met the absolute love of his life, Linda, on August 18th 1984. They spent a wonderful 37 years together. He was an unending source of support and love for Linda, and after many years of flirting with each other, Mike and Linda joined their hands in marriage on June 12, 2021, nearly 37 years after they fell in love.
Mike was a music lover and hobbyist. He began coin collecting in his teen years and could solve a Rubik's Cube in less than 60 seconds, something his grandchildren were endlessly in awe of...
His ability to collect and catalog music and movies, news and information, was evident in the MANY hours of recordings, and collections of books and magazines he maintained over the years. Often working to update the technology to ensure the longevity of his archives. If he was curious about it – he was passionate about it. There was rarely an in-between. And his passion extended to his family…
Anyone who knew Mike, knew that he was a proud father, friend, and mentor. He will forever be remembered as a foundation for all who loved him and an example of love, dedication and perseverance. Mike was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Willie Mae Richter and his youngest son, Brian Richter. He is survived by his wife, Linda Simpson Richter, his son Greg (Becky) Richter, sister Norma Mae Richter, step-daughters Kimberly (Alex) Vatau, Rhonda (Jim) Coit, April (Michael) Edge and Tracy (Paul) McRee, as well as 17 grandchildren.
