

Josephine was born on Hill Street in Houston’s Fifth Ward. She was baptized and married at Sacred Heart Church on Little York. She graduated from Jeff Davis High School at the age of 15.
Josephine was instrumental in starting Canino Produce Company in 1958 on Airline Drive. She worked there tirelessly for 25 plus years as co-founder and co-owner. She was chairman of the Vegetable Day Celebrations that the Farmers Market had for many years. She was an active member of St. Bartholomew Church in Katy, honorary member of Texas Watermelon Association, and won many 1st place Ribbons for pecans that she and Charlie harvested on their property in the Texas hill country. She was one of the hardest working women that God ever put on this earth, and the best mom you could ever hope for.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 24 years, Charles A. Hughes, parents Michael Angelo Orlando and Maria Orlando, son, Baby Canino, siblings, Paul E. Orlando, James J. Orlando, and great-grandson Evan McCauley.
She is survived by sons: William (Bill) Canino and wife, Cynthia; Michael Canino; daughter, Kristine and husband, Lawrence Pilkinton; first husband and father of her children; Joe Canino Jr.; grandchildren, Kimberly and Marvin Atkins, Lyndsay and Larry Pilkinton, Danielle and Kevin Pilkinton, Kristie Pilkinton, Natalie and Kris McCauley, Billy and Brett Canino. Great-grandchildren, Aidan, Emily, Lauren and Caroline Atkins; Gage, Henry, Gavin, Brian and MeKaela Pilkinton; Nadia and Owen McCauley.
Sisters, Lucille Oliver, Elizabeth Robson and Lena Raska and husband, Bennie. Brothers, Joseph S. Orlando Sr. and wife, Diane, Michael Orlando and wife, Joann and sister-in-law, Mary L. Orlando. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday March 15th from 5:30 – 8 PM with Holy Rosary at 7 PM in the Chapel at Forest Park Westheimer. Funeral Rites will begin at 11 AM on Friday March 16th at Assumption Church 801 Roselane Street Houston, 77037.( Little York & Airline) Interment to Follow at Forest Park Westheimer.
