Joy L. Helms “Sweet Momma” March 24, 1935 – January 7, 2011, has stepped from this life into life eternal after a year long battle with cancer. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years the Rev. R. C. Helms. Together they spent almost 5 decades in ministry pastoring in the Houston area for 23 years. Joy also worked along side her husband as the East Texas District Bishop of the Pentecostal Church of God and served as the East Texas District Women’s Ministries Director for 21 years. Joy is survived by 6 children, Lenora Hunt, Doris Gilliam, Alvin Helms, Thomas Helms, Phillip Helms, and Joe Helms; one sister, Lela Kelsey; also 25 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren. Joy is preceded in death by one son, Danny Helms. Only heaven could keep record of all the lives she touched with her love, kindness, and generosity. We will always miss her but shall never forget her. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 10, 2011 from 5-9 and services Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 2:00 pm, both at the New Caney Family Worship Center, 23214 FM 1485 E. Rd. New Caney, TX 77357.
