Joyce Marie Eckler was born on August 11, 1937 in Overton, Texas to Archie and Mary Moran. She passed away July 9, 2019 in Spring, Texas. She was the fifth of seven children. Her siblings were Johnny, Gertrude, Floyd, Dorothy, Evelyn and Kenneth. At the young age of 14 she met the love of her life, Joseph David Eckler. Joe and Joyce married on November 1, 1952 at the tender age of 15. Joe and Joyce soon began to build a family of five daughters; Brenda, Barbara, JoNell, Mary and Judy. They lived in Houston throughout their married life. The family enjoyed long road trip vacations yearly, hung out at the local swimming hole, cookouts with family, card games and board games. Joyce was a homemaker for many years; however, once the youngest child entered school she chose to join the workforce. She worked at several small department stores, but settled with K-Mart in the accounting office. Joyce retired form K-Mart after 20 plus years and began a second career with Walmart; retiring after 15 years. She then worked part-time until the age of 75, all the while maintaining a loving and supportive relationship with her husband and daughters. Joe and Joyce were married for 57 years at the time of Joe’s passing. The relationships with her daughters have held strong with devotion to one another. Joyce’s passing will be felt for years to come as the next generation takes the reins.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Joseph David Eckler, daughters Brenda Joyce Quinn and Barbara Louise Moore, and her granddaughter Cassie Diane Moore.
She is survived by her daughters JoNell Bell, Mary Major, and Judy Hunter. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, 1 sister, many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
