Joyce Irene Johnson Luke

Joyce Irene Johnson Luke, born November 2, 1934 in Texarkana, Arkansas left this Earth to be with her Lord and Savior on December 14, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 plus years, Robert R. Luke, and their son, Robert Timothy Luke. She is survived by her daughter Meredith, her son Glenn, grandchildren Ronnie, Ryan, and Sarah Luke; her brother Richard Johnson and wife Carolyn, her sister Carole Heckman and husband Michael of Virginia. Joyce graduated from Jeff Davis High School in 1952. She was a member of the Jeff Davis Carlton Cadettes, the Rainbow Girls and also received a scholarship to attend Lon Morris Junior College where she received an Associates Degree. Afterwards, Joyce worked until she married her high school sweetheart, Robert Luke in 1956. They left Houston for Austin where Robert Luke pursued his degree at UT while Joyce worked in the business offices at UT. They came back to Houston, found a church home and started their family with the birth of Robert Timothy in 1961. Glenn and Meredith followed in the years after. Joyce worked as a teachers aid at the Briarwood school for 18 plus years and began her volunteer work after retirement at 62. Joyce and Robert lived in England for a little over a year while Robert worked there and upon their return to Houston continued to do volunteer work at numerous places including her church, and various Benefits for the Brookwood Community where her daughter Meredith lived for 13 years and now works as a day student. Joyce was a gifted gourmet cook, listener and prayer warrior. Joyce suffered a major stroke that left her severely handicapped for a year in bed before she graduated life here on Earth and moved on to Heaven. She leaves behind her loving children, grandchildren, extended family and a host of long time close friends.
