Houston, Texas – Judy, also lovingly known as Mom, Grammy, and Aunt Judy, passed peacefully on Saturday, January 15 with loved ones by her side. She was the sixth of ten children born to Guy Felix and Lera Mae (Dabney) Boykin on December 3, 1945. A native Texan born in Mexia (pronounced muh-hair according to my Nanny), she loved all things Texas including George Bush, Bluebonnets, her Texas Monthly subscription, and of course JJ Watt (she thought he was a real Texan). Judy lived to serve her grandkids, family, and friends. She was always ready to “whip” up a batch of homemade chicken nuggets, a cake on short notice, or her famous chocolate pie!
Most of all Judy brought fun and joy to those around her. In the last five years of her life, when her mind was betraying her, she was still loving others. She was appreciative of the smallest of gestures from her loved ones, and especially from her caregivers. One of the most common two words to come out of Judy’s mouth were "Thank you". She will be missed terribly.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Lera Mae Boykin, her brothers, Charles (Sonny) Boykin, Wilmer Boykin, Weldon Boykin, and her sisters, Mildred Turner and Sara Propst. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Nowak and husband, Richard, her grandchildren, Ty, Riley, and Luke, her brother, Michael Boykin, her sisters, Carolyn LaPier, Sandra Hazelwood, Kathy Boykin, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. While not “technically” family, we can’t fail to mention the love she had for her very best friends, her partners in crime and travel, LaWanda Domeshek, Doris Aurich, and recently passed, Dena Barker.
