Julia Ann Sandelovic McKay, age 92, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2011. She was born in Pilot Grove, TX, on October 29, 1918 to John and Albina Rohan Sandelovic. Julia grew up on a farm in Yoakum, Texas with her eight siblings.
Her married life began on June 4, 1949 to George McKay in Oakland, CA after meeting at a Guy Lombardo dance. George and Julia were blessed with five wonderful children. They enjoyed spending time with their family and volunteering at Christ the King Catholic Church where their children attended school.
Julia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a stay at home mom and you could always count on a great dinner at 5:30 every evening. We looked forward to her kolaches and cinnamon rolls. The grandchildren would spend a week at their house in the summer and they could count on ice-cream in the freezer!
She was patient, kind and always there to help in any way she could. Her way of helping included praying a rosary or saying a special prayer. It was hard to think of Mom without Dad. They were models of good Christians and loving parents. To this day, we believe that we are where we are as a family because of her prayers.
Julia is preceded in death by her husband, George, her three sisters, Elizabeth Cretors, Annie Heiman, Mary Zissa and Albina Sandelovic; brothers, Emil and Rudy Sandelovic, and her parents.
Julia is survived by her children Pat and Calvin Epps, Margie and Tommy Wilson, George Charles and Rosemary McKay, Barbara and George Levandoski and Paula and Paul Aguilar. Her grandchildren Michael and Patty Epps, Brian Epps, Stephanie and Curtis Baker, Nicole and Eric Martinez, Amanda McKay, Christopher and Lacie Rizzo, Dustin Rizzo, Zachary Levandoski and McKayla Aguilar. Her great-grandchildren Jack Hoopes and Vivian Epps, Wyatt McKay and Rylie Martinez. Her two brothers Adolph and Mary Sandelovic , Felix and Janie Sandelovic and her brother-in-law Julius Zissa as well as numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
