OBITUARY

June M. House

24 August, 1921 – 31 May, 2023
IN THE CARE OF

Memorial Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery

June McPherson House passed away on May 31, 2023. A native of Los Angeles, she attended Los Angeles High School and the University of Southern California, where she majored in Fine Arts and Architecture.

Following graduation, she held several enviable positions, including work at MGM with LB Mayer, a few years at Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills, where she modelled, while also participating in the Junior Executive program, and later assisting in the management of her sister Elizabeth's interior design/antiques business on Wilshire Blvd in Los Angeles.

All this set the stage for her daring departure, along with a long-time friend and classmate, to Germany in the early 1950s, as a part of the Special Services branch of the US military. It was during this phase of her career that she met her future husband, US Army officer and engineer, Albert, and her life changed course completely, to assume the new role of wife and mother.

Following their marriage, relocation to the US, subsequent moves to various cities around the country, and the birth of two of her three children, June and the family settled in Houston for a second time, where she engaged in a diverse panoply of voluntary activities, ranging from Cub Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout Troop Leader, to repeated stints as president of HESS Ladies' Auxiliary, Ikebana International, the Institute of International Education, MFAH/Bayou Bend, the Harris County Heritage Society, Houston Federation of Garden Clubs, Junior League of Houston and the Japan America Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, her parents, and five siblings.

June is survived by two sons: Richard and his wife Joan; James and his wife Candice; daughter Susan and her husband Richard, and more than a dozen nieces and nephews.

June was an ardent supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Remembrances of her can be directed to that institution.
