Katherine "Nana" Sue Barr

Katherine "Nana" Sue Barr, 84, of Houston, Texas, passed peacefully on November 1, 2025, surrounded by the loved ones who meant everything to her. Born on October 3, 1941, to Thomas Floyd and Louise Green, Katherine was the eldest of four children. She is reunited in Heaven with her parents; her siblings, Thomas F. Green Jr. and Velma Lee Doss; and her loving husband, Calvin Gene Barr.

Katherine’s legacy lives on through her children, Donald Gene Barr (and his wife, Barbara) and Rheyna Sue Solis (and her husband, Mauro). She adored her grandchildren—Jarrod and Hannah Solis, Matthew and Rebekah Barr, Geni and Colton Marks, and Molly and Kye Fontenot—and her great-grandchildren: Emma, Heidi, Holly, and Zachary Solis; Elliot and Ryan Barr; Benjamin Marks; and Kameron Fontenot. She is also survived by her sister, Alice Owens, as well as countless family members and friends who deeply loved her.

Family was Katherine’s heart. She prayed faithfully for each of us, pointing our lives toward the Lord Jesus Christ. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and her beautiful Santa collection reflected her joyful spirit. She had a fun-loving personality and enjoyed shoes, purses, decorating, antiquing, shopping, and collecting roosters and chickens.

We will miss her laughter, her prayers, and her gentle strength—until we are reunited again in Heaven.

Honoring Nana as pallbearers will be Donald Barr, Mauro Solis, Jarrod Solis, Matthew Barr, Colton Marks, and Kye Fontenot.

A visitation will be held at Brookside Funeral Home, located at 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039, on November 9, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.

A Celebration of Life will follow at the same location from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.

The burial will take place at Brookside Memorial Park, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039, from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm on November 9, 2025.
