Kat was a dear friend whom I greatly admired and respected.  Always thinking of others first.  Devoted loving mother, kind person, and courageous woman.  I will never forget her impact on my life and her bright smile.

My heart goes out to family and friends in this time of loss.  She was an great inspiration and an awesome friend to me. I will miss her greatly.  Grace

I met Katherine Carnes, Kat over ten years ago during my first weeks at MD Anderson through the scientific publications writing workshop.  Kat opened my eyes to the method of scientific writing and gave me the tools to become better writer. Over the years, she made invaluable contributions to numerous manuscripts, grants, and presentations.  Every time I put pen to paper, I think of Kat and the lessons she so generously taught. I am forever a better writer and better scientist because of her.  On a more personal note, I admired Kat for her strong and loving relationship with her daughter Theresa and I often confided in her and valued her insight.
