

Kathryn Schier Davis went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, the 11th of July 2015. Born to Richard Francis Schier, Sr. and Clara Mary Schier on the 30th of June 1918, Kay grew up in San Antonio, Texas where she attended Catholic schools, graduating from St. Gerard Catholic High School.
On the 6th of March 1948, she wed Ralph Stephen Davis, Jr. After living in Philadelphia, San Francisco, Honolulu, and Dallas, they settled in Houston in 1950 where they made their home. Kay enjoyed gardening, cooking, needlework, playing bridge and solitaire. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren, hosting family gatherings and special occasions. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who never said “no” to a need. She will be missed by all who loved her.
Kay is survived by daughters Mary K. Maxwell; Margaret Ann Thompson and husband Erwin; grandchildren Erwin G. Thompson, III and wife Heather; Stephen Davis Thompson and wife Morgan; Elizabeth Aileen Johnson, husband Robert and daughter Alice Aileen; Kathryn Marie Maxwell, and John Cochran Maxwell. Kay also leaves behind loving nieces Carole Riley and husband John; Barbara Hill; Ann Ames; Mary Jo McLaughlin and husband John; Betty Wiatrek; Shirley Stanush and husband August; nephew Thomas Moore Yelvington and many other extended family.
The family would like to thank all who remembered Kay with flowers, cards and visits, especially over the last few years. They express their gratitude to The Gardens of Bellaire for their loving care of Kay over the past two years and the medical staff at Methodist Hospital and Houston Hospice for their compassion and care of Kay during her last days. The family wants to acknowledge the many volunteers at the Gardens of Bellaire who brought her communion, music, bingo, pet visits, and special entertainment, filling her days with joy and love. Most especially the family would like to thank devoted caregivers Ms. Mirian Arias, Ms. Johnnie Holmes and the Holmes family, and Mr. Carlos Salguera who helped Kay and Steve during their later years.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock this afternoon until seven o’clock this evening, Tuesday the 14th of July 2015, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, with Recitation of the Holy Rosary to commence at seven o’clock this evening.
The funeral liturgy will be celebrated at ten o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 15th of July 2015, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6800 Buffalo Speedway in Houston, with Monsignor William L. Young, Pastor, officiating. The rite of committal and interment is to follow, via an escorted cortege at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Robert Bentley Johnson, John Cochran Maxwell, Erwin Gaston Thompson, Jr., Erwin Gaston Thompson, III, Stephen Davis Thompson, and Thomas Moore Yelvington.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Kathryn’s memory may be directed to Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX, 77030.
