Kimberly Lynne Martin, age 57, was welcomed into the gates of Heaven on March 18, 2017. She passed peacefully in the presence of family after a 20-year battle with breast cancer. She was predeceased by her mother, Catherine Brand. She is survived by her husband, Robert; her son, Connor; her daughter, Carly and husband Blake Null; her sister, Leslie and husband Mike Kohnen; her stepfather, Bill Brand; her father, Oscar and wife Maggie Jones; her sister-in-law, Debbi and husband Fred Emmite; her sister-in-law, Lori and husband Lanny Shulman; and six nieces and nephews.
As a child, Kim’s family moved all over the country following her father’s work. They lived in a number of different places—from Toledo, OH to San Francisco, CA—before settling in Houston, TX in 1969. Kim graduated from Spring Woods High School with the class of 1977, where she enjoyed playing clarinet in the marching band for all four years. She graduated from the University of Houston in 1982.
Though Kim fought illness for many years, she never let it interfere with the love she had for her family. She married her wonderful husband on August 4, 1984. Together, they built a beautiful home full of warmth and joy. Kim loved being a mom, and she was very involved in the lives of her two children. One of her favorite things to do was watch Carly dance. As the number one fan of the Cinco Ranch High School Cougar Stars, and later, the Texas A&M Aggie Dance Team, Kim wore maroon often. She also loved cheering on Connor, whether he was running out with the Cinco Ranch High School football team or biking in the MS 150. You could always be sure Kim was in the crowd taking pictures of every moment.
Kim was a role model to everyone around her. She gracefully maintained countless friendships by showing an unfounded amount of kindness and making everyone she knew feel loved, despite the many challenges she faced. She will be remembered for her courageous, resilient spirit and her warm, kind heart.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home on Friday from 5-9 PM. The funeral service will be held at Kingsland Baptist Church on Saturday at 1 PM, followed by a committal service at Memorial Oaks Cemetery. SPECIAL NOTE: The Martin family encourages guests to wear pink instead of black to the funeral, as pink is the color of breast cancer awareness and Kim's favorite color!
