Latonya Gunter

LaTonya Denise Davis was born on November 16, 1968 in Houston, Texas to Gracie Lee Davis and Ervin Lee Davis. While her family home was in Northwood Manor, on Hartwick, 9010 Bertwood is where her childhood to adult life flourished among family and friends.

LaTonya was baptized at Greater Jerusalem Baptist Church. She attended Shadydale Elementary School, Northwood Middle School, and M. B Smiley High School. She attended Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas before entering beauty school and earning her cosmetology license.

LaTonya married Alex Gunter who was the love of her life for over forty years. While LaTonya had no children of her own, she had a hand in raising many including stepchildren Cherish Tyler, Alex Gunter Jr., Zeek, godson Deshun, and niece and nephew, Robert Jr (Tu-Tu) and Aniya Lewis. LaTonya later found her calling in Sheldon ISD where she started as a bus aide and earned her commercial driver’s license to become a beloved driver, friend and coworker to many. Tonya as we affectionately called her fell in love with shoes, clothes, and shopping at an early age. She had a huge collection of shoes and clothes. She also had a love for traveling which prompted her to take several cruises.

The pride and joy of her mother, she was a beautiful daughter, wife, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, friend and co-worker. She will truly be missed. LaTonya was preceded in death by her dad Ervin Davis, Grandad Mack Brown, Grandma Lucinda Brown, Father-in-law Sam Gunter, Uncles Jessie, Jim, David, and Darrel Brown. Aunt Robbie Richards, and Cousin Latosha Dorsey.

LaTonya leaves to cherish her husband Alex Gunter, mother Gracie Davis (John), sister Toymika Lewis (Robert) brother Deaflous Davis, Aunt Josephine, Mother n Law Gradie Gunter, Brother n Law Shawn Gunter (Melanie) Sister n laws Genetha Roberson (William) Vonda Gunter, and Shuna Qualls (Lydell). nephews Deaflous, Kamron, Jarel Davis, Robert Jr. and niece Aniya Lewis, and host of loving cousins nieces and nephews.
