Lena Margaret Gullo Muchaw, 89, devoted wife, loving mother, adoring grandmother and great grandmother, and devout Christian peacefully entered eternal rest in the arms of Jesus Christ surrounded by her loving family on February 7, 2019 in Houston, Texas.
She was born on December 10, 1929 in Houston to Jennie and Dominic Gullo. Along with her six siblings, she was raised in a loving, close and faithful Italian family. She graduated from St. Agnes Academy.
Lena met the love of her life and her husband of 63 years, Donald Bernard Muchaw, at St. Anne Catholic Church. Together they raised seven beautiful children and lived a humble but abundant life with God as the center of their family. They enjoyed years of summer vacations to Troy, NY, traveling throughout the US, and several trips to Europe with her siblings. The most cherished times of all were the many family gatherings. Family celebrations were everything to her.
Lena was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, where she was an active member of the choir for over 35 years. Singing was one of her many joys in life. She would often volunteer her time to sing at retirement homes, and especially enjoyed the Christmas concerts she would produce for the residents. She was also a life-long member of The Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
A faithful friend, Lena was a competitive card player, especially bridge, where she was a member of several women’s bridge groups for over 55 years.
Lena lived by example. Her eternal optimism, infectious smile, witty sense of humor and generous heart brought joy and peace to all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Donald Bernard Muchaw, her brothers Frank and August Gullo, her sisters Sadie Clay and Christine Campbell and oldest son Michael Terry Muchaw. She is survived by her sister Catherine Manis and brother Anthony Gullo, Sr., daughter Ginger Stephens (James), son Douglas Muchaw (Donna), daughter Crystal Muchaw, daughter Holly Troegel (Paul), daughter Heather Reid (Jimmy), son Ben Muchaw (Carrie), 16 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Agnes Academy (www.st.agnes.org).
The family will receive guests for viewing and visitation at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home on Sunday, February 10, 2019, from 3 to 5 p.m.
