

Leonard M “Iggy” Ignas, age 88, of Houston, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025. Born in East Chicago, Indiana and moved to Houston in the early 1950’s. He is survived by his wife of 27 years Theresa Palermo-Ignas; (3 children) Pauline Ignas, Lillie (Chris) Breaux and Thomas (Mona) Ignas; (8 grandchildren) Natalie Turner, Charles Turner, John Turner, Michele (Milton) Koch, Kimberly (Michael) Hann, Aimee’ (Reid) Hopkins, Hannah Breaux and Matthew Ignas; (1 great-grandchild) Zelda Koch; Brother Larry (Zhelah Kayce) Ignas and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Walter Joseph & Josephine (Strzalka) Ignas; Stepmother Helen (Pozdol) Ignas; Late-wife Joanne (Mikula) Ignas; Brothers John (Eva), Robert (Florence), Richard, Raymond (Rose) and Frank (Patricia); Sisters Irene (Joseph) Urbanczyk, Lillian (Joseph) Dalhstrom, and Karoline Florence “Carolyn” (Ernest) Coursolle.
Iggy had a passion for life and loved his family dearly. He enjoyed cooking for family and friends and was an avid fisherman and hunter most of his life. He volunteered as coach for many youth sports teams. He loved to travel and gamble and made many cruise trips with his fellow retiree friends. He was “officer friendly” and made friends easily. During his long and eventful life, he was a Houston Police Officer for 31 years, Harris County Precinct 5 Constable for 13 years, U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. Member of the American Legion, Life Member of Elks Lodge #151, Houston Police Retired Officers Association, Knights of Columbus Council #12385 and a founding member of Corpus Christi Catholic Parish.
