Lloyd Griffin “Butch” Posey, Jr.
Lloyd Posey, Jr. departed planet Earth on February 13, 2012, at the age of 66. Lloyd was born in Orange, Texas, and grew up in Houston. He graduated from Bellaire High School in 1964 and received both his B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemical engineering from Rice University. He started his career in the petrochemical industry at Rohm & Haas in 1969. Lloyd was a Registered Professional Engineer and spent the last 35 years with Jacobs Consultancy (formerly The Pace Consultants), where his expertise in refining, petrochemicals and site selection gained the respect of his colleagues in the chemical and refining communities.
An avid runner until injuries sidelined him, Lloyd completed 16 marathons, including the Boston Marathon, for which he qualified twice. He mentored other runners and encouraged their success. He was also a passionate and talented photographer, and everyone who knew him enjoyed his creative travel and nature scenes, and people and pet portraits.
An amateur astronomer, he and his wife Linda spent a memorable vacation at MacDonald Observatory in West Texas, stargazing through the facility’s huge telescopes and hobnobbing with the astronomy faculty and grad students.
Lloyd and Linda enjoyed travelling and experiencing new horizons together. Favorite trips included vacations in Australia, New Zealand, Russia, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, the United Kingdom and throughout the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii.
The Poseys also shared many adventures in personal growth through Landmark Education and its Wisdom Unlimited programs, including several vacation courses. Lloyd loved reading (especially science fiction), movies, attending the Houston Symphony and Houston Ballet, visiting over dinner with good friends, and spending time with his cats.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd G. Posey, Sr., and Mary Hays Posey. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda Summers Posey; his sister and brother-in-law, Jane Posey Reuss and Marty Reuss, of Virginia; cousins Le Foster, Wes Foster and Bill Foster of Houston; “adopted” siblings Linda Fraser and John Ford of Houston, and Tom Bonnell of New York City; innumerable friends and chosen family members; and last but certainly not least, his beloved cats, Carmelo, Maxie and Minnie.
Those wishing to honor his memory in a tangible way may make donations to the American Heart Association, the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), or charity of choice.
