

Logan De Wayne Martin, a Great Man of Faith, 69, of Houston, Texas, was suddenly called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 24, 2014. Born September 7, 1944 in St. Stephens, South Carolina to Isaac and Iona Martin. Logan graduated Elise High School in 1962 before attending North Carolina State University. Logan joined the United States Navy, serving six years before receiving an honorable discharge in 1970. He went on to work full time at the Medical University of South Carolina while studying full time at Trident Technical College in Charleston, SC where he earned an Associates of Electronic Engineering. He went on join Texas Instruments in Houston where he worked loyally for 30 years.
Since retiring, he dedicated tremendous time and energy in the service of his community of Alief, Texas. Logan believed in "fixing broken windows," serving as President of the Catalina Square Improvement Committee and spearheading the neighborhood's Houston Police Citizens Patrol. Along with wife Patricia, he was honored by the Houston International Management District with their Outstanding Community Service Award. Logan and Patricia are founding members of the Alief Community Garden where they sowed the seeds and reaped the harvests of fresh vegetables and neighborly fellowship. When away from home, he and Patricia were often found enjoying the open road from the back of his motorcycle, fulfilling lifelong dreams of travel both at home and abroad, including the Sturgis Rally, the Run for the Wall to Washington, D.C., Costa Rica, the Caribbean, and Israel. Strong in their Christian faith, they were frequent fixtures at church and in the homes and lives of their family and friends. Logan was a Deacon in the Nazarene Church, taught Sunday school, preached, led Bible Study, a teen youth group, and a group for young married adults.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia, daughter Amy Martin and her husband Zack Becker of Houston, daughter Brande Ingrando and her husband Kimo Bonnelycke of Denver, Colorado, mother-in-law Eloise Martin of Loris, South Carolina, and granddogs Frisco and Felony.
He is preceded in death by his beloved son Jonathan Logan Martin, brothers Donald and Sammy Martin, and faithful cat Macavity. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 29 from 6pm-8pm at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Friday, May 30 at 10am at Ashford United Methodist Church, 2201 S. Dairy Ashford, Houston, TX 77077. Burial will proceed immediately after at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, followed by a reception at the Ashford United Methodist Church fellowship hall. All family and friends are invited to attend.
