She was born in Dunlap, Tennessee on the 2nd of August 1919, and was reared in Kingsville, Texas, where she graduated from Henrietta M. King High School and from Texas A&I in 1940. Her graduate work was completed at Northwestern University in Illinois and at the University of Texas.
Following four years as a teacher in the public school systems of Kingsville and the Rio Grande Valley she moved to Houston where she worked in advertising and public relations. Ms. Henry retired from AK Steel in 1984. She was a long-time member of Second Baptist Church and of Literacy Advance of Houston.
Lorena was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Arthur Henry and Eunice Pearl Hixson Henry. She is survived by several cousins including Michael H. Rigsby and his wife Carolyn of Houston.
A memorial service and celebration of life is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 7th of July, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
At a later date the family will gather for a private interment in Kingsville.
