Lorrie Gene was born on September 27, 1934 to Edna Wells and Milo Rogers. Lorrie (LG) attended the Houston Public school system where she was a graduate of Phillis Wheatley, the class of 1952. After graduation LG gave nursing school a try but discovered this was not her true passion. She later became intrigued with fashion and sought employment with Neiman Marcus downtown. She excelled in sales and learned quickly how to coordinate fashion that was unique to each client. Lorrie had a long career in retail sales that expanded to 20 years at Neiman Marcus and 5 years at Saks Fifth Avenue.
Lorrie was a long-standing member of the Clinton Park United Methodist Church where she attended faithfully until she was unable due to a debilitating illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edna Wells Marshall and Milo Rogers; a brother, Milo Rogers, Jr.; a nephew, Kevin Rogers and godchild, Pia White.
She was very active in her neighborhood civic club with decorating her home and helping others during the Christmas holidays. Lorrie enjoyed cooking, entertaining her family and bowling on a regular basis. Even with her limitations Lorrie lived a motivating and inspiring life. Against all odds and with constant therapy her first illness did not get her down. She learned to read, write and drive her car when doctors said she could not. Her attitude was always I can do it! This second illness was much more challenging but she never gave up on the fact that she would walk. Her departure has left an indelible void with her children and her family, friends and acquaintances. Lorrie leaves cherished recollections that will forever be etched into the hearts of many. To embrace her memories, she leaves 2 loving and devoted children, H. Karen M. Baker and Keith D. Baker; 5 sisters, Wilma N. Jackson, Ernestine Goudeaux, Hattie Marshall, Dorothy Thomas, Deborah Rogers Evans (George); 2 brothers, Johnnie Charles Marshall (Diane) and John E. Rogers, 3 nieces, Sharion Marshall (Square), Jasklyn (Lainey) Gray, Felisa Jackson and 4 nephews, H. Glenn Brantley, Kerry Rogers, Joshua Evans, Miles Rogers; Anna Powell our next-door neighbor and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Lorrie was a blessing and a gift to all who knew her, she will be sorely missed.
