Louvenia Wormley Posey, the youngest of four children, was born to Frank Wormley and Lucreasey Martin Wormley on April 5, 1900 in Fayetteville, Texas and spent her early years there, as well as in Spring Hill, Texas where she attended school that served as both the church and the school in that area. After Frank's death, Lucreasey later married and through that union, Louvenia gained three more siblings. Louvenia's mother died when she was five years old and the children were split up amongst several aunts in the family. Louvenia went to live with her aunt and uncle, Texana and Johnny Martin, who raised her as their own. She picked and chopped cotton, plowed the fields, gardened and generally did farm labor, developing skills that she applied later in life when she met and married her late husband, Matt Posey. She was a long time resident of the Acres Homes neighborhood, where she planted beautiful flowers and tended vegetable gardens around her home, sharing all with her neighbors. She lived in Acres Homes with her husband until his death, then relocated to Windsong Village Nursing Home in Pearland, Texas, where her life's journey ended as she slept. Her life spanned almost one half century of the entire history of the United States, having been born in the 19th century, lived through the entire 20th century, and had saw many of the wonders of the 21st century. She lived throughout the presidency of 20 out of 44 United States presidents, from William McKinley, the 25th, to President Barak Obama, our 44th president, whom she "never dreamed of ever seeing a Black man as President of the United States of America." Louvenia lived through both World Wars, the Korean Conflict, Viet Nam, the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, the Stock Market Crash in 1929, The Great Depression in 1930, the entire Civil Rights Movement, the Kennedy Assassination, man's walking on the moon, the explosion of the atomic bomb at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and the information explosion of the world wide web. In honor of her 107th birthday, then President George Bush sent her a belated birthday greeting from the White House, and on her 112th birthday, President Barak Obama and First Lady Michele Obama extended birthday wishes as well. Louvenia was a longtime member of Mt. Ararat Missionary Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and never missed an opportunity to tell others about the "goodness of the Lord," or about her love of listening to Homer Lewis sing! When asked her secret to such a long life or what message she would leave for today's generations, her response would always be " Honor thy mother and thy father that thy days may be long upon the land that the Lord, thy God has given thee." She leaves numerous family members, friends, and caretakers to celebrate, not mourn, her well lived life, her wisdom and her love. Mrs. Louvenia Posey, 113, transitioned from earth to glory on Saturday, March 1, 2014.Services for Mrs. Posey will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2014, with a visitation beginning at 9:30am. Her Life's Celebration will follow at 11:00am. Both services will be held at mt. Ararat Baptist Church 5801 W. Montgomery Rd., Houston, Texas 77091. Mrs. Posey's earthly vessel shall rest alongside her husband in Cemetery Beautiful. Pastor Michael Rutledge, Officiating
