Most loving man on earth and now in Heaven
William Lowell Abel of Houston, Texas died Monday peacefully at the young age of 91. He was a man with a twinkle in his eyes and a loving smile. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Janice Abel of 68 years and his 4 daughters, 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 2 son-in-laws. He was born on September 16th, 1922 and raised in Shawnee, Oklahoma. His eager and engineering spirit led him to become an Eagle Scout and later volunteer his time with the BSA. He enlisted in the US Navy and graduated from Oklahoma University, and he was a die-hard Boomer Sooner fan until the end! The Navy called him to duty for World War II for 1 year and for the Korean War where he served for 2 years. Following his service, he worked for Amoco for 35 years as a mechanical engineer. He also was an avid volunteer, always devoting his time to teaching and helping others in so many ways, including being a dedicated blood and plasma donor. He was one of AARP’s most valued members offering his help with tax counseling and defensive driving. He was also voted the slowest and most cautious driver in Houston by his family! He never missed a chance to help out with any and all of his daughters’ activities including Junior Achievement, coaching softball teams, Spring Branch band events, and church. He was the world’s greatest (and most appreciated) handyman and even worked in the church nursery to repair every broken toy, chair, bed, table and puzzle. He loved being a part of the YMCA “Water Babies”, the “Go Slows” camping group, his active neighborhood, and was an honorary (and loved) member of his wife’s sewing group. He was loved beyond words by all his “pretty girls,” grandkids and great grandkids. He was the center of his family’s world, would never miss out on a hug, and always insisted on wearing a suit to church! He was an absolute blessing and he WILL be missed more than anything. A special thanks to hospice and his loving wife for making life at the end so special. May your ship sail smoothly, Daddy, Granddaddy and Papa. We will see you again when God calls us home.
Love,
Janice, Marsha, Shelley, Marilyn, Carrie, David, Sonny, Meg, Jeff, Liz, Brinton, Mark, Melissa, Austin, Sara, Morgan, Brinton Jr, Cora, Sage, Heron and Keaton.
