Lyle J. Darr, of Westbury, passed into the arms of the lord on December 6, 2021. He was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, on October 2, 1922, and his family immediately moved back to Dallas. He spent much of his time fishing in Turtle Creek. Soon after high school graduation, Pearl Harbor was bombed and he volunteered for the U.S. Coast Guard. He spent the war serving in the Pacific as a gunnery sergeant on a landing craft.
After his return to the States , Lyle married the only woman that he ever loved, Imogene Louise (Gene) Davis. They worked together to put Lyle through SMU while he earned a degree in accounting. He spent his career in accounting, including 35 years at Texaco, Inc. During this time, Gene blessed Lyle with two children, Deborra Ann and Stephen Lyle (deceased).
Lyle became an excellent golfer, matching his score to his age in his later years until giving up the game at 89. He was an informed, intelligent man, reading the newspaper every day and discussing the events with visitors. He did, however, watch every golf tournament that was on TV and every Dallas Cowboys game.
Lyle was preceded in death by his wife, Gene, and his son, Stephen. He is survived by his daughter, Deborra Babic and husband, Ronald, of Houston; granddaughter Celine Darr and spouse; granddaughter Alexis Darr, and daughter-in-law Rosie Darr, all of Rosenberg; and several nieces and nephews from the Dallas area.
