Macaria L. Ramos was a modest woman, quiet and observant in her ways. She was trustworthy and traditional in her approach to her life and in her relationships. She was tough-minded with the kind of “stick to it” attitude. She was also a woman who was meticulous, carefully disciplined, and orderly in virtually everything she undertook. Realistic about life, she was always ready, prepared to take on responsibility.
Her parents were Agustin and Leoncia Mateo. Macaria was raised in Iloscos Norte, Philippines. She was brought up to work hard-doing her best, be self-confident and dependable. These were traits that would serve her well throughout her life.
Growing up in the Ramos household was a bit different than most homes. There were good times to be had, but just as often there was a fair share of challenges as well. However, Macaria was able to work through the usual family problems when they appeared, and she was the one person in the family who seemed to keep things in order. Macaria was raised with three siblings. She had two younger brothers, Loren and Roger, one younger sister Annie. Macaria and her siblings may have had the typical rivalries while growing up but Marcia was always a great support to her family.
She graduated from Laoag City High School in 1950. She enjoyed taking some college courses through adulthood to better herself for her Home Care business. Macaria was a very logical person who enjoyed learning about factual information. Using her exceptional memory, she was able to learn much through observation. Macaria always seemed to have a command of the facts and was able to make it seem as though she could solve problems that might be presented to her.
In 1978 Macaria exchanged wedding vows with Sammy. She was devoted to Sammy. Macaria held endearing, traditional values about family life, caring for her two daughters and her one grandson. She took responsibility for providing well for her family— giving it her total commitment. She was a source of strength to Sammy and she worked hard to make her family happy.
Macaria brought the same traditional values in her marriage to bear on how she raised her children. She was a good parent to them, always firm yet fair in her dealings. She would always listen carefully and think things through before she acted, even when it was an adverse situation. Macaria was also a walking schedule, always seeming to know what everyone in the family needed to do, where they needed to be and when they needed to be there. Marcia was blessed with two daughters: Maria and Margaret and blessed with one grandson: Sean, and one great granddaughter: Karter.
Macaria greatly enjoyed what she did for a living. She was one who paid careful attention to detail, allowing sufficient time to complete one task before moving on to the next. She was self employed—a Care Home Operator for elderly (1971-2005) Ramos Care Home. Macaria worked hard, always did her best by doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Macaria enjoyed her private time, She always tried to allocate a specific time for working on her hobbies. Her passion was sewing, such as curtains, blankets and clothes for her self, and others. She also set a time to read her Holy Bible. Macaria was content to enjoy her hobbies alone and willing to share her interests with others.
Macaria was a woman who was dedicated and devoted to her faith. When she moved to Houston in 2005, she became a member at Lakewood Church Houston, and regularly attended their Sunday Services. As a Born-Again Christian, she was a sympathetic woman who valued her beliefs and will share it with others.
Macaria enjoyed traveling and taking vacation, when she could. Favorite vacations were England, Philippines, and Israel.
Macaria was a lover of animals and cherished her pets. One of Marcia ’s favorites was Nitro, a part shih tzu/maltese dog. They were best friends for 4years.
When Macaria retirement finally arrived in 2005, she was well prepared. She always trusted and placed value in what was logical and in the things she knew, so she was very confident in planning her retirement. She had begun the process early and had her retirement all laid out well in advance. In retirement, she found new pleasure spending time with her children and husband. Even in retirement, Macaria stayed in touch with some of her friends in the island (Hawaii).
